We are very happy with our draft. We see Lekkerimaki, Casey, Ostlund as huge parts of our future and think we took a few guys in Weir, Hejduk that should be solid depth and a few lotto tickets in Duke, Brochu, and Gaidamak.

While it was tough to move on from Cardwell, Coe, and Robins, we think Casey, Ostlund, and Tuomisto will more fit our needs going forward.

Now for the NHL side of things: we were disappointed to not be able to move on from Burns but will continue trying in the off-season. We believe Merkley and Meloche are ready for the next step making Burns expendable. We were also able to turn our Reimer into Suter who we see as a good 3C going forward until our C prospects like Ostlund and Bordeleau are ready. One reason we targeted Suter was his ability to play wing as well giving us flexibility if someone impresses in camp. We believe Kahkonen and Hill both have it in them to be a really good tandem going forward. We are hoping Lekkerimaki can immediately step in and play next to Hertl and Eklund this season but do have options in case he doesn’t fit that role. Our coaching staff is fun and full of personality as well so looking forward to what they do there.
