By USCHO Staff-August 31, 2022
Student-athletes who transfer will be guaranteed their financial aid at their next school through graduation, the Division I Board of Directors decided Wednesday in a virtual meeting. ...
NCAA rules now will require any school that considers athletics when awarding scholarships to transfer student-athletes to provide that scholarship for the rest of a student’s five-year eligibility or until they complete the requirements for their bachelor’s degree, unless the student transfers again or engages in professional athletics opportunities. ...
The board adopted the following notification-of-transfer windows for winter sports, which includes men’s and women’s hockey: a 60-day window beginning the day after championships selections are made in the sport.
The legislation also establishes exceptions to the new windows for student-athletes who experience head coach changes or have athletics aid reduced, canceled or not renewed. ...

Atlantic Hockey non conference series to watch: Part One
September 21, 2022
Oliver Francies
For Atlantic Hockey to be a two bid or more conference, they will need to win some more series/one off games this year against non conference teams. We will highlight some key ones and what to watch for in them.
Holy Cross-North Dakota
Bill Riga spoke at Atlantic Hockey media day about his group and what heading into year two of his leadership as head coach of the Crusaders looks like. Holy Cross took points from nearly every team they faced down the stretch of Atlantic Hockey last year, and has some scoring power coming to this team. ... If Holy Cross can compete as they did down the stretch and focus on short segments of the game, they could give a strong Fighting Hawks team more than they may want to deal with opening up the season.
Niagara-Omaha
Head Coach Jason Lammers loves playing NCHC teams on the road to open up the season. He thinks it helps them get ready to travel to Air Force, the only plane trip for any school in the conference. Also, this series will be a good test to see how fast a new look Niagara team is. ... Lammers also mentioned the strong speed that NCHC teams all have and we all expect Omaha to be fast. Niagara could face a former AIC goalie in net for this series in Jake Kucharski as well. ... Omaha will be one of the fastest teams in the NCHC again this year, but a physical team like Niagara that can skate with them should make this season opener a series to follow.

Men's College Hockey Preview: 15 Teams To Watch Going Into NCAA Season
Chris Peters takes a look at 15 teams that could figure prominently one way or another into the 2022-23 men's college hockey season.
Sep 28, 2022 by Chris Peters
Summer is nice, but if you’re a hockey fan it doesn’t get much better when the calendar flips to October. This year, the Oct. 1 will also bring the first official action of the men’s college hockey season with a series of exhibitions, but also a pretty large slate of non-conference games and even a couple of full-on conference showdowns. ...
To get you ready for the 2022-23 men’s college hockey season, I picked out some of the teams I’ll be watching closely throughout the year, some top NHL prospects that will dot NCAA rosters this season and much more.
This isn't meant to be a top teams list, rather it's all about teams that I think will factor into the season in various ways, some as championship contenders, some as newsmakers, others just because I can't wait to see what the team on paper looks like on the ice. ...

2022-23 Men's NCAA Hockey Power Rankings
Oct 4, 2022 by Chris Peters
Chris Peters provides his weekly power rankings for NCAA Division I Men's Hockey.
Welcome to FloHockey's weekly power rankings for men's NCAA hockey. Find out which teams across the country rise, fall or stay put as the weekly series unfold in the 2022-2023 season.
1. Minnesota | Last Ranking: N/A
Record: 2-0-0
Currently No. 2 in both major college hockey polls, the Gophers started their season with a sweep of first-year program Lindenwood. Minnesota had several key players to replace from last season, but have one of the nation's best recruiting classes and a veteran blue line that is among the best in the NCAA.
2. Denver | Last Ranking: N/A
Record: 0-0-0
The defending national champion Pioneers are the top team in both major polls, but they have so much scoring to replace from last season. What they do have, however, is almost its entire defensive corps returning from last year's team and starting goalie Magnus Chrona. If their young forwards can have a positive enough impact offensively, they'll remain a title contender.
3. Minnesota Duluth | Last Ranking: N/A
Record: 2-0-0
The Bulldogs passed a tough Week 1 test against a solid Arizona State squad, earning the sweep with an OT win and more convincing 4-1 victory on Saturday. Freshmen forwards Ben Steeves and Isaac Howard look like they're going to make an impact for a team that had to replace some veteran talent, but UMD's strength will continue to be its solid team defense and ability to dictate the pace of play. ...
