Mixed bag of results on Friday night in the ECHL Division Finals series(es) ...
-- Central Division #1 seed Cincinnati was eliminated in a sweep by Toledo.
-- Jacksonville staved off elimination with a 4-3 OT victory @ Florida.
-- Allen returned half of the home team disadvantage favor to Idaho by taking Game #3 on Boise ice.

Three more games are scheduled for Saturday night, while the Walleye go fishin' as they await the delayed Mountain Division outcome.

In the North, the Growlers move on while the Royals go home. Bad enough Reading had to travel to isolated St. John's, but Newfoundland's constant tinkering with game scheduling takes even more energy for a visiting team to focus. o_O

Down South, Jacksonville won both games in Estero on the weekend. So the Blades & Icemen return to J'ville for at least a Game 6 on Monday.

ETA: Out West, Idaho took a 3-1 lead in their interrupted series vs. Allen. Scores through Saturday play have been updated in the Division Finals post.

Idaho scored four in the opening period of Game 5 on Sunday, while Allen played their usual game of: "You just wait until I get outta this box & I'll take another stupid penalty while trying to injure you!" Not the kind of comeback strategy that a team should employ when down 3-1 in a playoff series, skating on enemy ice, with on-ice officials who have the previous game's two richly deserved suspensions fresh in their minds (especially the Abuse of Officials infraction). But hey, it's the Americans, they have a tradition to uphold. :pb:

Idaho cruised to a 6-0 final score, after they took some anger-induced penalties of their own in the third. So the Steelheads move on to meet Toledo in the Western Conference Finals. That leaves the two Florida teams to decide on Monday night (or Tuesday night, if necessary) in Jacksonville who will represent the South Division in the Eastern Conference Finals against Newfoundland.

Allen's behavior is an embarrassment to hockey. I love rough and physical play, but some of those guys are just plain dirty and dangerous. Glad the Steelheads booted them in 5 (although, I was (un)lucky enough to be at the game they lost).

They think they're still in the CHL.
