Kral was added with 7 votes. Vote for who to add next.

1. Each poll will be open for 24 hours.

2. As we never have a consensus way as to which players are still considered prospects, we'll be using my way (at least for the first few polls). The player must be U24 and have less than 50 GP in the NHL. The "prospects" that are left off because of these rules are Joey Anderson, Brennan Menell, Adam Brooks, Joseph Duszak, Vladimir Bobylev, and Nickolai Chebykin.

3. At this time we'll stick to the top-20, but if we want to go to 25 or 30 (I believe the Leafs have just over 30 guys that are eligible) I'll definitely go further.

Rankings:
1. Rasmus Sandin - 53.2%
2. Nick Robertson - 50.9%
3. Timothy Liljegren - 56.9%
4. Rodion Amirov - 90.6%
5. Topi Niemela - 62.1%
6. Matthew Knies - 45.4%

My rankings have Abramov as the #7 guy (and my first 6 all have went), but the more I've been thinking about it this off-season the more I feel like I've been too low on Hirvonen due to his underlying stats in Liiga. He's stood out against players his age, he's the youngest of the "2nd tier" (imo) group with Abramov, Miettinen, and Kokkonen left (Niemela and Knies already picked), and his production away from his not very good Liiga team is great. He's playing for a different team (like Kokkonen) this year and I'm hoping for big things. I'm picking him.

Abramov

Hirvonen is a bloody good little player but I prefer Abramov's all-around skill set when I'm comparing the two

Relatively close between Hirvonen and Abramov.

Big fan of the pest attributes in Roni's game but I think his lack of breakaway speed is going to limit his already non-elite skillset at the NHL level. It's one of the same reasons why I have Knies above him, who is a bigger, more projectable version of Abramov as well.

Edge to Abramov. First Euro captain to win a QMJHL championship, consistently head and shoulders above his teammates in PPG, and has a more standout skill set across the board. Also showed some bite at the WJC with his suspension.

Add Koster.

Not really

Look back to the 80's

Post kind of indicates where it is at, look back to the 80's to feel good about this?

Although I think Sandin and Liljegren could be NHL players today, everyone else is more on the hope and prayers category.

My guess there will be others who make it who have no bearing on any voting that goes on here, could be in the top 5 could be 20th. Crapshoot.

In the 80's we had very little in the pipiline.

Today we have lots. Are we the #1 team flush with prospects no.

That and the majority of those complaining of the state of our prospects were not even alive in the 80's makes the argument that much easier...

In the 80's they were in the NHL much too soon. Sandin would be in year 3 now and Liljegren a vet, right or wrong.

True, and that's one of the main reasons why they never had prospects in the pipeline developing.

Yikes, prospect pool is very weak....
Not at all. Look around the League. We might not have a Steutzle level prospect but we have a very deep pool compared to the rest of the league. We are probably in the 8-12 range. Considering we are top 5-10 team, thats great.

Liljegren, Sandin and Niemela all have serious top 4 potential.

Amirov and Robertson have serious top 6 forward potential.

Knies has size, hands and an NHL shot already. Has top 9 potential

Then we have a cluster of guys like Hirvonen, Abramov, Abruzzese, Miettinen that all have a nice combinations of skills that could see them as potential top 9 guys. They might not be as likely to hit but I like their chances.

You have a cluster of D men like Kral, Koster, Kokkonen who are potential bottom pairing guys with some good skills.

This is not a weak pool.

I liken the people who think this prospect pool as weak to the anti-vax'ers of the world.

Misinformed, and consistently deny the obvious facts and data.

We have plenty to be excited about from a futures perspective. We have at least 10 players with above average chances of playing in the NHL at some point. Surely at least 1 of them will become a high impact player. And when you factor in the fact that we have either drafted outside of the 1st round or late in the first round every year since 2016, there really is no wonder why we don't have these Stuetzle level prospects that people would associate to a strong prospect pool. But Sandin, Lilly, and Robertson are still considered to be high level prospects. Even Amirov and Neimela for that matter.

You cannot rebuild your pool and compete at the same time, they tend to be inversely proportional. It is exactly why teams like buffalo tank/liquidate. To rebuild their pools. I'd say we've drafted very very well despite being in our "competing" window

Your Worst Nightmare
Hirvonen was the easy pick here.

Going into the next round, I'm not as high on Abramov as others. I have him behind Abruzzese, Kokkonen and Gogolev. I think he is in a group of forwards with Abruzzese, Gogolev, Miettinen, Holmberg and SDA where not all that much seperates them. All are good B-prospects. But, I'm not sure why he is a clear favourite going into next round based on his body of work.

Add Hollowell.

Look at most other teams prospect pools. Especially contenders. Ours is better than most of them.

I dont think ours is terrible per say, the problem is we basically have 2 types of players mainly. Small skilled puck moving defenseman and smallish skilled wingers. Not any Defensive D, power forward, two way forwards (Hiro is one), etc.

We need to diversify our picks imo. I was for drafting Guhle or Schneider for that reason. With that said im not against Amirov.
