It's quite a big risk, and the fact you threw in a higher pick made the deal more lopsided. Tavares has been very consistent scrorer.

Yes, you retain his rights in the offseason. He'll be ineligible for pickup for the remainder of the season.

True. The other consideration for me was that I had 3 superstar centers. Using both franchise slots on C's (not moving Scheifele) seemed like a bad idea. Now I have a more balamced group of keepers with 2 G's, 2 C's, 2 D's and 1 winger. Hamilton is also 3 years younger.
