Interesting one of Tampa or Toronto won't make it out of the first round. Either the 2-time defending champs finally go down, or the futility in Toronto continues.

If the B's don't win, I'd be ok with Florida. Despite Nosek yanking Joe Thornton's gray beard, it would be nice seeing him win a Cup. He's only played 34 games and I'm not sure he'd suit up should Florida reach the Final. But if the league approved Eddie O, they'll approve Big Joe. I also have a soft spot for Giroux.

The Rangers/Caps series some wanted didn't materialize. And Edmonton should handle LA, so McDavid/Draisaitl should see the second round.

So we have Dustin Brown and Ryan Getzlaf confirmed retirements and Keith Yandle and Zdeno Chara possibly hanging them up in the next few days.

What a group already and there are no doubt a few more who could be joining them.

The new era has begun in the NHL

The only teams I really don't want to see win the Cup this season are Tampa and Toronto. Great that one of them will be gone after the first round.

If Boston doesn't win the Cup I will be rooting hard for the Preds of course, as well as any of the other WC teams minus the Blues. Out of the EC I could stomach the Panthers winning since it would be cool if Jumbo got a Cup, not to mention the Panthers are a likeable group with a crap ton of skill.

The NHL Players' Association announced on Friday night that it has formed a search committee to find the successor to executive director Don Fehr.

The NHLPA executive board held a conference call on Monday, and the players voted through the week on whether to begin the process of replacing Fehr. The 73-year-old joined the NHLPA in December 2010 and negotiated collective bargaining agreements in 2013 and 2020.

That Tampa vs. Toronto matchup is super intriguing. Part of me says that Tampa will bulldoze Toronto, but a bigger part of me thinks it may be a high paced, but drawn out series.

I don`t think the Bolts bulldoze the Leafs, pains me to say it, I wouldn`t be shocked if the Leafs take them, that Bolts D, if you play them down low in the D zone are susceptible and Leafs have the overall speed to cause them major fits. As is often the case, timely saves, special teams and overall team health could be the keys
