This time it's between FLA and CAR for me.. As Canes have at least some winning culture (incl. one SC) they get my vote.

I like Florida here. Coach Q, Barkov, Trocheck down the middle, Bobrovsky in net and solid wingers/defensemen.

It's summer. If I'm wrong, no one will remember. If I'm right, I'm taking out banner ads in the New York Times.

Just wondering do you have anything to back this up, or is it just a "don't quote me I am throwing this out there as a feeling with no justification".

Because I can't see Florida improving 20+ points as a team and all the teams above them regressing. Especially seeing as the only team you could argue got worse is Boston and their core is still capable of winning it all.

Most teams in the EC shuffled players around but didn't get substantially better, IMO. A few lost ground because of roster changes or an aging core. The Rangers added two great players, but there are too many variables with their youth and in nets. I also like the Flyers, but I don't think they're quite there yet.

Only two EC teams made substantial gains that directly addressed their weaknesses: New Jersey and Florida.

NJ has a bigger upside, provided Subban and Simmonds get back to form, if Hischier and Hughes explode, and the biggest "If" -- if Schneider gets his groove back. If they all have solid seasons, watch out. If not, well... another frustrating year. But mark NJ down as my pick for NHL's Great Story of 2020.

Florida was already a good team with one glaring weakness: goaltending. They have very good scoring and shot-suppression -- top-10 in both categories -- but they allowed a ton of goals because they had awful goaltending. Bobrovsky adds top-end talent in the exact area they need it most. Plus, the entire team is young, developing, or in their prime. Oldest key players are Yandle and Stralman, only 33. This team is balanced from back to front, with a few elite pieces.
