I just don’t see it with Walsh. Literally. I’ve watched a number of his games in college just to watch him and he’s never really stood out to me. I’m not saying I have a great eye or analyze things like a pro scout but I do notice guys at lower levels that show something. For Anderson after his WJC captaincy he came back to school and i could see the confidence and better playmaking and taking the extra half second before getting rid of the puck. For Talvite it was the WJSS after he was drafted where he played with and against the best junior players and he skated well and moved the puck well and looked good handling the puck in the flow of play. In contrast watching Pakkila in international play he never impressed me. I don’t think he ever handled the puck beyond a short touch or two in games I watched. Hopefully Walsh can become more dynamic and develop into a good NHL player.

on the flip side, didn't people think wood was gonna be a top 6er based on college? and then look what happened

Now we are getting into good prospects who just overcame major injuries. Zetterlund seems to have come out of it better than Talvitie. I still went with Misyul.

Talvite had the layer of personal tragedy, losing his mom, last season. That had to weigh heavily on him. I expect that if an upcoming season happens for PENN State that Talvite will rebound and we can see whether his game is still developing. Befor his injury he looked like a future NHL player to my eyes. Hopefully he is physically and emotionally ready to play and he can pick up where he left off before he was hurt.

I'm surprised that a 20 year old defenseman that's playing 8 minutes a game in the KHL is running away with this. I like Misyul just fine, but Merkley looked good in his 4 games with the Devils just last year, and is playing very well in Finland. I personally have him along with Moynihan, McCarthy, Daws, Sharangovich, and Zaitsev ahead of Misyul.

I think at this point it also gets a bit muddy in terms of what are we really voting on. The top picks were clear, those guys are simply just better prospects. But now I think there's a thin margin between guys and there's a lot that are probably around this tier. For me, I think Misyul just has better potential than anyone else on the board. He'll probably never be a big point producer but I see his potential as a 2nd pairing strong defensive defenseman that's also good in transition and can skate very well. Merkley just seems like a 4th line, maybe 3rd line energy guy. Which is totally fine and that's still valuable but I'd just rate Misyul higher (I've also been voting for him for the past few polls and maybe like him a bit too much).

The only guys I'd potentially take over him would be Moynihan, Sharangovich or Zetterlund who isn't even on the poll lol.

walsh ahead of misyul is a surprise for me. great for the devils, if i am wrong, as rhd is an extremely thin position for the devils.

I'd still take Misyul over him but I didn't realize, statistically, how well Daws played this past season. His .924 SV% led the league and his team was close to middle of the pack. For perspective, Blackwood's 18-19 year old season (same as Daws this past year, believe he was an overager in the draft) he had a 0.921 SV% which was tied for 2nd in the league and was on the 6th best team.

Don't really want to compare the two, I think Blackwood always had incredible potential given how athletic he is, but interesting nonetheless.

Agreed. It now becomes the best of the rest but the best seems like the rest so it's a tough call as to whom gets voted.

I think everyone onward is on the same Level now where it's a coin-flip.

It’s hard for me to buy Merkley not being a top 10 prospect right now.

if available would mcleod been voted, yet? is merkley clearly better than mcleod?

I’m definitely higher on Merkley than McLeod. Merkley has been better in the AHL, and has 4 G 5 A in 12 GP in Liiga right now. Way more impressive than anything McLeod has done in the AHL/NHL so far.

Yep, was just about to come here and say I think Merkley is getting undersold here. I voted for him last poll too. I guess it’s sexier to pick an unknown that I’m sure a majority of Devils fans have never seen play a full game but read nice things about...over Merkley who we have all seen play and know he’s solid but not a super high ceiling guy.

For a variety of reasons, there’s a better chance of Merkley becoming regular NHLer over Musil.
