Before the Redskins franchise tagged Scherff a guard had not been franchise tagged since 2011.

It becomes guaranteed once he signs it I believe. Given these uncertain times, might be good to have that signed, despite what most players would do which would be to wait until camp is well under way and come in near the end to avoid all of the wear and tear leading up to game 1.
