ALBANY, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced the dates and format of the 2021 men’s and women’s league championships. All four competing institutions will compete in a single-elimination championship over the course of one championship weekend. Information on seeding and scenarios are also below.
2021 Women’s Championship
The two women’s semifinal matchups will be played on Friday, March 5, with sites and times yet to be determined. The No. 4 seed will travel to No. 1, and No. 3 will travel to No. 2 for the right to compete in the championship game on Sunday, March 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Seeding will be finalized after this weekend, and will be determined by percentage of available points, as not all teams have competed in the same amount of league games. Colgate, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence are currently fighting for the regular-season trophy, but all four programs still have the opportunity to host semifinal games. ...

GOTW: Nick Swaney’s hat trick returns No. 10 Minnesota Duluth to win column with 5-1 win over No. 6 St. Cloud State
By Jim Connelly - February 27, 2021
There was no doubt coming into Saturday’s game against No. 6 St. Cloud State that Minnesota Duluth, riding a three-game losing streak scoring just twice in that trio of games, hoped for a statement game.
A 5-1 win against the number six team in the nation qualified as that, a victory that was led by senior Nick Swaney, who scored three of the first four goals for the Bulldogs and helped them control the game that resulted in definitive win over the Huskies. ...
After losing the last three games, the ability to take control of a game and finish pleased coach Scott Sandelin.
“We played with some confidence,” Sandelin said. “We didn’t look like we had lost three games. We got the lead and built on that lead. It’s something we needed badly.” ...

Roundup: Providence Bounces Back From Rough Loss
BU, UConn Also Recover After Friday Defeats
CHN Staff Report
With a few days to dwell on an 8-1 loss at the hands of Massachusetts last Tuesday, Providence went a long way towards exorcising that demon.
The Friars held Northeastern to just 13 shots in a 4-2 win at Matthews Arena. The win theoretically is a big boost to Providence in the Hockey East standings and in terms of NCAA Tournament consideration. But the teams play again Sunday, so another win is important for Providence.
"I don't know what's a must win and what's not a must win. It was a must 'we gotta play well' after our showing on Tuesday, I can tell you that," Providence coach Nate Leaman said. "I wanted to see us compete, I wanted to see us execute a lot better, and I wanted to see us be much more of a team, and I thought we did that. I thought the road was good for us to do that. ..."

Roundup: Caufield Hat Trick Lifts Wisconsin
CHN Staff Report
Cole Caufield keeps on piling up Hobey Baker Award credentials. The sophomore sensation picked up a hat trick against Ohio State, as the Badgers' offense exploded one night after being stymied to a single goal in regulation.
Caufield is up to 22 goals on the season now, in 26 games, a pace that would put him in lofty company in recent college hockey history.
The win, following the overtime win a night earlier, keeps Wisconsin's hopes alive for the Big Ten regular-season championship. Because of cancellations of recent games, the teams will play an uneven amount, so the league title will go by winning percentage. Wisconsin is currently at 14-5-1-2, .697, while Minnesota is 15-5-0-0, .750. The Badgers finish with two at Michigan State, while Minnesota hosts Michigan for a pair.
"We got our momentum when we got back from Christmas and got our full team together, and it allowed us to practice together as a group," Wisconsin coach Tony Granato said of his team, which has gone 11-2-1 down the stretch, following a strong showing in a split with Minnesota right after the holiday break. "The first few months of the season there was a handful of times we had our full team on the ice together. ... You felt that (Minnesota series) was going to be the start of something special, and it has been. ... It hasn't been perfect, we haven't run the table, it's pretty hard to do that against the competition we have. But I think every single game we've positioned ourselves to be in. When things didn't go well at the start of games ... the kids kept playing and playing and playing. So the momentum we've been able to carry on since Christmas, we want to make sure to (keep going). We have a chance to take a crack at the No. 1 seed." ...

Band of Brothers
Notre Dame's Sibling Pipeline is Alive and Well
by Jashvina Shah/Staff Writer
Over a decade ago, Graham and Landon Slaggert were little kids hopping on the ice after Notre Dame’s hockey practice.
On Wednesday, Graham and Landon Slaggert were those Notre Dame players that stayed alone on the ice, shooting pucks together. ...
Graham and Landon have obvious connections to Notre Dame — their dad Andy is a coach. But they’re also a set of brothers playing for the same team. That’s common enough in college hockey, but Graham and Landon aren’t the only brothers (who are playing or have played) for Notre Dame. ... In total, there have been 15 sets of brothers who’ve played for the Fighting Irish. It stretches back all of Graham’s life, to a pair of brothers who played in 2000-01, Tony and Aaron Gill. ...
