For as much as everybody criticizes how they're overdone, it's definitely still an experience to attend. And when you're a gate-driven league, it makes sense why they do multiple games a year.
This cannot be emphasized enough.
Of course the NHL would love to be a ratings juggernaut, of course it will never be (hockey is a cult sport), the butts in the seats pay the bills.
The scene yesterday was stunning on tv, I can only imagine being there live.
The Capitals/Leafs in Annapolis last season was amazing live, all the pomp and tradition, the flyover, everything. The NHL knows how to present this, and make it feel special for the people in attendance. They just keep getting better and better at it, and until people stop attending, they won't, nor should they, stop having them.
