Imagine Sakic shocks us with something huge.

Mikko + Grubi + Timmins for Gibson + Lindholm + Manson

Then replaces Mikko with Hall at a much lower AAV.

Avs window closes faster than Winnipeg’s did but Sakic hands the keys off to somebody else and “retires” just before it goes to shit.

From the other thread...

I know. Would probably have to include Gru and 24th OA, and probably another roster player to make it work salary wise.

Byrum + Gru + 24th OA + JTC/Dong/Zads for Hampus + Gibson + 2021 3rd/4th

Problem there is you're basically out of cap space after you sign your RFAs because you have Landy and Makar to resign after next year. And you still haven't addressed your 3C issue.

If that was the trade, The Avs would probably have some cap space left on the table to maneuver a 3C into the fold.

Gru ---> Gibson would be an extra 3M
Byram ---> Hampus would be an extra ~4M.

But if we're moving Donskoi or JTC that's another 3.5M off. So we'd actually be adding about 3M in cap space from the deal, while the Avs project to have around 7-8M in cap space after our key re-signed guys are signed(Nuke, Bura, Graves, trade Jost/Z).

That would be enough space to add a 3C. A guy like Bonino out of Nashville with 1 year left and a 4.1M cap hit would be the perfect target, and they may have interest in big Z for that Left Side instead of Jared Tinordi as well. Not sure how the Avs would feel about Z being in the division but personally I'd welcome the opportunity of skating circles around him regularly.

We’d have to add the Buyrum to get both.

My only issue with it would be you're probably looking at $16M minimum to resign Landy and Makar, after next year. After both trades, you'd only be losing Calvert, Cole, Bonino, and PEB's cap hits after 2021/22 season, which adds up to just $13M. Where is the other $3M+ coming from, and how do you address the other spots you have to fill (ie: a whole 4th line and a 6th Dman)? And that's not even considering you'd have to resign Lindholm after 21/22, and Mack after 22/23. That's like $20M minimum there.

I'd make that deal.

Hall - MacKinnon - Landeskog
Burakovsky - Kadri - Nichushkin (because Cousin Eddie said so)
Donskoi - Namestnikov - Compher
Calvert - Bellemare - Jost/LOC

Lindholm - Makar
Girard - Johnson
Byram - Cole/Graves
Cole/Graves

Gibson
Francouz

Make it so, Joe.

Well for one, expansion draft is going to take away a good player.

Whether that's Graves and his 3M, or JTC and his ~3.5M, Francouz and his 2M, or potentially even Burakovsky and his likely 5.5M. We'll lose someone to expansion and free up money that way.

We also project to still be under the cap by a couple of Mill this summer even after those moves would be made. A roster with Gibby and Lindholm in it and say Donskoi out of it, still comes in likely around 79M this year.

It would be tight and some maneuvering would need to be done. But it could absolutely be done.

Let’s just hope Sakic has the keys to be able to spend as needed.

As of right now, We have no idea if the Avs will be imposing their own internal cap. COVID has thrown a real wrench here. The Avs are likely going to be in their prime for playoff appearances, and we don’t know when ownership is going to get to benefit financially from that.

We can cross that possibility off the list. No MacKinnon trade......this offseason.

Perhaps Joe could help the Ducks out...

For being a budget team Anaheim really do have a surprisingly high cap for this coming season.

I really hope Sakic finds some creative ways to take advantage of our great cap situation to ice an improved roster while also adding some good assets.

Only 68m in salary though. Perry buyout and a number of the contracts decline in pay this next season. Getz, Backes, Folwer, Lindholm, and Gudbranson are all over 1m less than their AAV next season.

What about Byrum + Gru + 24th OA + Zads for Lindholm + Gibson + Getzlaf ($3M retained)

Ducks get the top LD prospect in the NHL, a serviceable Goalie, a decent 25 year old Dman with untapped potential, a 1st round pick, and about $13+/- in cap space (after resigning Zads) to use on UFAs to improve their team.

Avs get the needed LD partner for Makar, the Goalie they covet, and a stop-gap 3C they need.

I would hate that trade.
