I am the not the words biggest homer. you are incorrect to think that
Then do you care to go into further detail? Because Montreal looks on paper like the least likely team in the division aside from Ottawa... which you also have getting a playoff spot.

I'm not even a habs fans by the way...

The Habs have Carey price who is healthy and when he is healthy he is franchise changing. The habs also had a lot of bad luck last season and bad lucky usually repeated.

Feel most confident that the Atlantic will be most similar to this; seems a very top heavy division with Tampa, Toronto and Boston being head and shoulders above the rest. Feel least confident in my prediction for the Pacific. Aside from Vancouver all 7 teams look like they could win the division... and all seven of them have major flaws that make me think they could miss the playoffs entirely.

I look at that roster and all the gaping holes at centre (they really don’t even have a true top-6 centre, forget a 1 C) and defence as well as a paradoxical derph of both talent and size anf it looks to me like their top end with a Vezina form Price and a healthy Weber is a wildcard spot, maybe a third seed. I just look at how their lines match up against Tampa, Toronto and Boston and they look worse in literally every position. I just can’t see them topping those three teams in an 82 game season. Not without dramatically upgrading their roster at least.

Ottawa needs to keep Karlsson and solve ita myriad of in-house problems to have a chance, and it looks like neither is going to happen. They look destined for a rebuild.

I’m shocked so many have Edmonton so high. I can see them pulling in to 8th place, maybe, and McDavid is going to need to carry them in his back and Talbot is going to need to bounce back. Are people forgetting they were sellers last deadline? Maroon and Letestu scored 43 goals for the team when they went to the second round two years ago. Not to mention Eberle had 20 goals that year. Are Strome, Brodziak and Rieder going to make up those 63 goals? I don’t see it.

Vegas will finish last place and set record for negative goal differential by only scoring 12 goals the whole season.

So you have the Leafs dropping by over 10 pts from last year and have them getting swept in the 1st?
What possible motivation would you have for that hot-take? :sarcasm:

Anything is possible, but if everything goes atleast normally they should score as much or higher. Injuries can be a real bitch

I might not think that the Flames should win the Pacific but there are a lot of people that think that Arizona somehow has improved and become better than us over the course of the last couple months?

I think we end up in the 2-4 range, but if someone could enlighten me as to why the Coyotes are now better than the Flames aside from the fact we ooze mediocrity, please do.

Barring injuries, hard to imagine the Caps/Pens not meeting in the 2nd round again with home ice being the only question mark.

You may have overlooked that "luck" has nothing to do with a very weak roster.

Nobody expected vegas to be better than most teams yet it happened.

If raanta plays well, that team could surprise a lot of people.

Doesn’t feel like enough turnover, but don’t think enough of the non-playoff teams have moved the needle very much so far in the offseason.

It's not like Toronto added JT and every other team did absolutely nothing. It doesn't matter who you think the biggest impact signing is this off season, moving players in and out can have some kind of impact (either short term or long term) and you won't know which (or positive or negative) one until the games are played on the ice. Not to mention that there's the luck of calls and bounces and of course the matter of injuries throughout the season. I know some people aren't sold on Anderssen and it's not denying that the Leafs blueline is currently their weakest area, then it's understandable for someone to expect a decline in points.

And I say this all as a Leafs fan. These are only predictions. You can create reasonable explanations for why you think a team will be at a certain place in their division or standings but how can one reasonably defend 5-10 hypothetical points in the standings? lol...and they shouldn't have to.
