Quick update on #OTTHAC17

Just wanted to let you know about some of the activities around the 2017 Ottawa Hockey Analytics Conference (#OTTHAC17). The conference will be Saturday May 6th at Carleton U in Ottawa.

Again this year we’ve got some great folks contributing. We will have sessions on women’s hockey, the NHL Entry draft, and a mock Vegas Golden Knights Expansion Draft. The mock expansion draft will feature analytics based protection lists and several mock drafts by prominent hockey analysts. Thanks to CapFriendly and Rob Vollman for their help with this.

We will also have some talks by Micah Blake McCurdy, Matt Cane, Sophie Jablansky and Eric Blabac. New this year is a student paper competition with posters and some student presentations. The winning paper will appear in the 2017 Hockey Abstract. Thanks to Rob Vollman for that! And to our distinguished panel of judges for their time. One of our sponsors SMT, who did the player tracking for the World Cup of Hockey, will do a presentation on player tracking.

As we have done in the past, we’ll have some social events in the Byward Market area on Friday and Saturday evenings. We will also have an event for women and folks new to hockey analytics led by Meghan Chayka before the social event on Friday.

Please register if you haven’t already at the following link:

Note that this year there is a registration fee that will cover lunch, etc.

There will be a networking/introduction to coding event the night before the conference this year. All are welcome though the target audience is women and those new to hockey analytics. It'll be on the campus of Carleton Univ at 530p on Friday May 5.

It would be fun - unfortunately, it's usually been during health care pricing/filing season here in the States. Hopefully one of these years I can pull myself away.
