If Miro Aaltonen doesn't get a bit more love soon we're all going to look like idiots.

He may not be a top 10 necessarily, ...but the fact it took till just now with showtime to finally give him a single vote is pretty steep oversight for a guy who put up 44 points in the KHL last year. He's not worse than top-15.

There's reason to be somewhat hopeful, but being decently productive in the KHL in your mid 20s doesn't always translate. Look at Steve Moses

Rasanen and when he goes then Brooks.

Aaltonen, while you can be optimistic about his production, he is 24. ~0.75 PPG in the KHL is nothing to scoff at, there's a fairly big chance it doesn't translate as it hasn't for many others. If you had 1 million worlds, which you simulated through from the same current starting point, he'd probably have a higher average value then some of the guys going now, but it's hard to tell and given his age there's likely not very much more upside there. Personally I have 7 guys remaining in tiers ahead of him and then him with a bunch of guys after that. That's probably not very fair to him. But it is what it is.

2016- -- Last year's rank minus prospects who graduated or are no longer with the organization.

This is a useful chart. I think the 2016- column may get a little misleading once more and more added guys start getting voted. For example, Kap would have been 1 minus the guys off the list, but then because Liljegren was added he's 2 without an actual drop amongst the remaining leftover guys. For 1 or 2 spot drops it won't matter, once you get into the 20's and you get 5 and 6 added guys in front of them, a current rank of for instance 23 with a 2016- rank of 17 may not be a real drop at all in 6 new guys are also in there in front of them.

Not sure if that makes sense the way I explained it. In a sense removing the promoted or guys that have moved on gives you a better sense of it they dropped or rose in a relative sense but without integrating new guys too it could make guys look like there was a relative drop when there wasn't because of additions.

Had to go with Rychel here. He had a pretty good season for the Marlies, he's already played in the NHL and is at least a sure-fire NHLer, whether there is any upside or not.

I'll keep beating this drum. No Cs so far. Judging by the poll Brooks could win this or he may not win until about 14. I realize that at the big level we are all the sudden rich at the position, but the system should always be stocked as it is a very valuable position.

there is no guarantee brooks stick at C, granted out of the list he is most likely but it doenst mean they will force him into C. I bet he starts on the wing on the marlies.

Last year at the start of the season the marlies c depth was pathetic, yet the leafs thought it was better for brooks to go play his 20yr old season in the WHL

While this is true, we have our future 1-2-3 locked up for 4+ years (either under contract or RFA status with Matthews, Nylander, and Kadri). It's not a huge concern right now and I'd actually be pretty shocked if we didn't have Matthews and Nylander as our 1-2 punch for the next 10+ years.

Most likely we are looking for a #3C to replace Kadri in 4 years due to cap reasons (hopefully not!) so that gives us the next 2 drafts still (or trades/FA) with a chance we won't need another center for longer if Kadri ends up re-signing.

For once I'm glad we're better stocked on the wings, defense, and goaltending as I believe our centers are the most set in stone once Nylander transitions over in a year or so.

Greenway will play

But took Rasanen for now.

Still say Greenway will be the next Nurse. Problem is Rasanen is scary upside.

The only real reason i am holding off on Rasanen for now is that he was just drafted. A good looking pick for sure, but also not at one time projected 1st/2nd overall. He's a work in progress. I don't mind giving it a year. But i would give more consideration towards 15...

The other part of this is just how much 2nd tier depth there is in the organisation right now. Lots of people pushing names on the list and basically all of them making valid points.

Rychel, Rosen, Brooks getting the rest of the votes and deservedly so,
but Aaltonen, Greenway, Middleton, Joshua, Timashov are all getting overlooked a bit for various reasons. There's so little separation.

Had to go with the 6'7 beast of a dman. Only seen him once last year but man did he look good. It seems his uoside is scary high, if he can reach it. Also considered Aaltonen as his KHL production was very respectable.

taking a flyer on Timashov knowing that he's not going to win, I think he's going to have a breakout season with more offensive usage in the AHL and will claw his way back up the rankings this season. I think (and hope) we'll feel silly for having had him outside of the top 10 by this time next year
