They said the same thing about Rask coming in, but he was only 6-1, 6-2 and doesn't have the huge reach that Roy does to make up for it. I don't think Roy can be a big scorer for a few years but he does play a physical which sets him up to play on the 4th line and maybe get some PP shifts as a net-front guy.

There is more than one speed that is slow. I think Rask would look like bottled lightning next to Roy.

Jeremy Welsh: 27G in 40 games in the NCAA as a 23 year old.

#YouHadToGoThere

What do you think this year looks like for Gauthier and Roy? Do they both start in the minors this year or is there a realistic shot for either to make the big club at some point this year? I remember them both having great camps last season. They have to be close...right?

Both will and should start in Charlotte. I'm not absolutely sure because, in truth, more than many teams, the Canes camp is a pretty fair meritocracy. It's just there are some significant hurdles. Should be not sign a top 6 or top 9 scorer, then sure, they've got a shot. Personally, I think they both will be served much better getting their legs underneath them in Charlotte.

Roy strikes me as the guy that could surprise. With his last two seasons in the QMJHL and a pretty great WJC he's got to be coming in with a ton of confidence.

So Roy's skating has improved noticeably in each of his two camps. Additionally, he's a better skater now then he was in September. He's never going to be great, but he can at least get to Victor Rask level "okay". The main thing that has improved is his edge work. He can turn much more quickly, stop much more quickly, and get back up to speed much more quickly. But he was starting from a significant deficit.

I knew Elynuik had a nice year but I didn't realize it was THAT good.

Aside from the obvious blue-chippers, he's the guy I'll be watching. He's long and lanky, like a pro player usually is, and he moves pretty well within that frame. His numbers suggest good progress the past couple of years, and he signed an ATO with the Checkers so he's had his first taste of the pro game.

Could be a case of a guy flying under the radar even within his own organization. I'll be interested to see what he brings, especially in comparison to Roy.

Only 3 of them under 6'0" tall. Nice.

.....and none of those guys drafted by us.

Was hoping for some more interesting undrafted invites, not a bunch of 23 year old.

The rest of the roster is exciting though. Good group of prospects we've assembled.

That guy Wyatt Newpower looks pretty interesting. Defensive depth and all...

Both David Cotton and Matt Filipe finished out their respective years in the NCAA on a very strong note. Cotton especially stepped up and played center all up and down BC's line up. When Colin White played internationally, he even got some first line time and was praised (as a freshman) for his solid work. He was 7th on the team in scoring and 5th in goals scored. From what I could glean, he seemed to get better and better. Filipe came on at the end of the season as well. Both these guys are intriguing as they have size and good skating ability, Filipe especially can fly.

I actually noted that size thing too. Ron Francis doesn't seem to like small skilled forwards. Though our top 2 forwards Skinner & Aho are small skill forwards lol.
