The AHL is not the right step for Lipanov right now. He didn't exactly blow it up in his +1 draft year

I don't think it is either but there might have been an agreement that's where he ended up this year. He signed his ELC pretty early and come over to play in the CHL, possibly to be just for 1 year then to turn pro. There could be a European out clause if he wasn't in the AHL this year.

I'm kinda surprised he's with Syracuse right now. Lipanov was one of the younger players in the 2017 draft. Turned 19 last month. Maybe he did not enjoy his time in the CHL (or specifically Sudbury) and together with the Bolts, they've ruled a 2nd season there out?

He shouldn't have come over so soon but what's done is done. I think he has what it takes to play in the pro's but Syracuse is already pretty full isn't it?

Part of it could also be that organizationally we're a little shallow at C. And maybe Tampa isn't pleased with how he was deployed/trained/coached in the CHL, and this allows them to take a more active role in his development.

I don't think we are shallow in average centers. Verheaghe, Dumont, Lynch, Sommpi, Colton, ABB can play C and then you have Stephens who should be 1C for Syracuse. So he's got a lot of competition for playing time. Last year he started on Barrie with Svechnikov so not sure how you can complain with his deployment, he just couldn't hold his own with them and they moved him, I didn't pay attention to him once he got to Sudbury as they were dead last. But he got a good chance to shine and he couldn't.

To take the Koekkoek approach I think he's better served playing bigger, better minutes in the CHL. Perhaps it's agreed on by all parties that this be the next step but I think it's going to come at an expense of playing time. I could be wrong though

Lipanov traded to Kitchener, can't remember the last prospect we had play for the Rangers. Good for him to go back to junior, he needs to get back on track after last year. Could be a Sommpi situation where they were highly rated before coming to NA but struggled early. Hopefully he has a big year like Sommpi did last year. He should be on the WJC roster as well.

Good, this was the best thing that could have happened. Lipanov didn't get a lot of chance to play due to injury. Take the year to grow physically and as a player. Don't hurry him

Trying to get updated information on him since there hasn't been much said. Lightning signed him as an 18-year-old and he got a brief look with the Syracuse Crunch before returning to the OHL in 2018-19.

This past season he was eligible to return for an overage season but instead skated in his first pro season — four games with the AHL Crunch as well as 37 games with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears. (Was this relatively low number of games played due to injury or was he with Syracuse for most of the season and a healthy scratch?)

Have seen some doomsday posts on here — always kind of rash for a 20-year-old in his first season of pro hockey.

Does anyone have a reasonable take on his first season?

Saw an interesting interview with Alexander Volkov, who is two years ahead of Lipanov in the process but said he felt many of the same challenges.

Just fyi, you're not going to find a lot in these specific prospect threads, as you can see there's not many pages and most of the posts are old. A lot of them were created on draft day to provide a separate space for info on them outside of the draft gdt, but afterwards the majority of all prospect talk and updates have happened in our general sticky prospect threads. They're your best bet to find stuff as the seasons go by. There are also a few really good places outside of HF to follow for Lightning prospect news, but the best one is Bolt Prospects. Hope that helps.

Lipanov was a PP specialist for Orlando, especially against Jacksonville for some reason. Streaky player.

He's got a ways to go to be an AHLer.
