Dylan Strome was a wrecking machine in Erie's 12-5 dismantling of Saint John. He had 3 goals and 4 assists, including 3 points on the PP, as the Otters went 5 for 7. Strome also had 10 SOG and was 21 for 30 in faceoffs. Erie set a Memorial Cup record with their 12 goals. The 17 goals by both teams broke a record of 16 goals that was set by the Kitchener Rangers and Kamloops Blazers in 1984.

Taylor Raddysh had 2 goals and 4 assists, brother Darren 2 goals and 2 assists, Alex DeBrincat and Anthony Cirelli both had a goal and 3 assists. Kyle Maksimovich and Ivan Lodnia had the other Otter goals while Cedric Paré, with 2, Mathieu Joseph, Spencer Smallman and Julien Gauthier got the Seadog goals. Troy Timpano made 18 saves, including stopping a penalty shot by Mathieu Joseph. Callum Booth started for Saint John and made 9 saves on 14 shots. Alex D'Orio finished up, making 18 saves on 25 shots. Shots were 17-16-6-39 for Erie and 4-8-11-23 for Saint John. Erie was 50 to 26 on faceoffs. Saint John was 0/3 on the PP.

Windsor scored early and often as they beat up on Seattle 7-1. Graham Knott, Julius Nattinen and Logan Brown scored in a 38 second span 5:26 into the game, which meant the end of Carl Stankowski's night. Nayyinen and Knott got second helpings later on while Jeremiah Addison and Jeremy Bracco added to the score. Keegan Kolesar got the lone Seattle goal. Michael DiPietro made 24 saves for the Spitfires. Stankowki only made 3 saves with Rylan Toth doing mop-up, making 18 saves. Shots were 11-10-7-28 for Windsor and 3-13-9-25 for Seattle. Windsor was 2/6 on the PP. Seattle was 0/4. Seattle was 37 to 28 on faceoffs.

Ethan Bear was held off the scoresheet, no shots and was -2 (although there are 2 missing + players on Seattle's goal).

Saw the Seattle goal and Bear was on the ice. So he was -1 on the night.

Oof. What a miserable performance.
Sometimes the WHL champ is just too beat up and emotionally spent to regroup in time for the Mem Cup. This looks like one of those years.

I remember our first recent trip to the Mem Cup was a disaster. The second trip, the team used that experience to their advantage.

6-0 after 2. Shots were 14-13 Saint John for a 2 period total of 21-20 Seattle. No PPs in the period. FOW were 15-8 for Seattle. Bear went -3.

Scott Eansor has been having a brutal game. -4 Turnover for the first goal. Couldn't handle a Bear pass for the third (IIRC) goal.

So is/has goaltending been an issue for Seattle? Given up 18 goals in 3 games so far, and losing 6-0 against SJ while leading in shots and faceoffs. Sounds like a net problem to me.

Not at all before this tournament. Their little 16 year old stepped up and played pretty good in the WHL playoffs.

Regina losing one of their best players was the reason Seattle came out of the WHL.

Goaltending has been like an All-star game this tournament. Very few big saves and a fair amount of the goals look like the goalies were either surprised or whiffed on them. Even Timpano didn't look sharp in the win last night. It could be that teams weren't paying tough in front of them. Perhaps the enormity of this is getting to some of the players.

There's really been no story for the 2017 tournament. Most of the top players have already been drafted and no real head-to-head matchups. I can't say who's actually played to their best for Seattle.

The Saint John Seadogs blew open the game with 5 goals in a 3:09 span late in the second period and cruised to a 7-0 win over Seattle. Joe Veleno opened and ended the scoring with Chase Stewart, Mathieu Joseph, Spencer Smallman, Cole Reginato and Bokondji Imama getting singles. Callum Booth got the shutout, making 31 saves. Carl Stankowski made 10 saves on 14 shots and was pulled at the 14:57 mark of the second. Rylan Toth finished it off, making 11 saves on 14 shots. Shots were 8-13-10-31 for Seattle and 6-14-8-28 for Saint John. Seattle was 0/3 on the PP, Saint John 0/2. Seattle won 30 of the 57 faceoffs taken.

Ethan Bear was -3 with 3 shots and a tripping minor. For the tournament he was 0-0-0, 3 SOG, -3 and 2 PIM.

I still haven't actually seen him play, but would Francois Beachemin be a good comparison/ideal-projection for Bear?

Sucks Bear didnt do well at Mem cup, but he had a busted hand. What is Barzals excuse? 2 assists in 3 games is crummy. Seems like all the big guns for T-Birds went silent
