It's finally time to rank the goalies. Missing from last year's list is Merrick Madsen whose rights were traded to Arizona.

Fedotov, Ivan
Hart, Carter
Lyon, Alex
Sandstrom, Felix
Stolarz, Anthony
Tomek, Matej
Ustimenko, Kirill

I'm a Sandstrom fan by the eye-test, but you can't argue with Hart's stats. Voted Felix, but who the hell knows with goalies. I just hope at least one ends up a good NHL netminder.

I wanted to choose Hart, but Stolarz is a lot closer, he already has a couple NHL shutouts in very few games, and he has that massive size which really helps in today's NHL. That size comes with great speed and athleticism too. I've seen him play some knockout games in Lehigh where he getting peppered and keeping the team in the game. I've seen games where he's let in 4 goals but still looked great.

Im a Stolarz believer until I get to see Hart play in the AHL or NHL or play more lights out in the WJC.

I voted Hart as well. I have seen him and the derned Silvertips beat my Spokane Chiefs on a few occasions over the past couple of years. I'm so glad the Flyers drafted him.

Felix.

A) He needs to be reunited with Oskar. It was a crime that Oskar didn't return to the SHL, so naturally, it means Felix must make the NHL post-haste.

2) Playing in a men's league gives bonus points, amidst his peers plays well in international competition.

*) Hart crapping the bed ever so often on the national teams gives me a little bit of pause.

I have to go with Hart over Sandstrom until Sandstrom wins the starting job and is among the top SHL goalies. Dominanting junior > playing in the SHL, but dominating the SHL > dominating AHL > dominating junior.

Stolarz to me has a fine future as a backup goalie, but he's not starter material unless he takes a step up, same with Lyon.

VOted Hart, the thing with Felix is that every time i expect him to take a step forward, he doesn't do it.
His numbers have been consistently average in the last 2 seasons, wasn't exactly lights out during the Juniors when i expected him to be the best in the tourney.
I'm still really cheering for him, but I guess Hart has more pedigree right now.

Voted for Hart but didn't expect this differential.

I also voted for Hart, but I think in general people underestimate how hard it can be young goalies to put up a high SV% in the AHL. This is a quick list of young goalies in the AHL in 16-17.

I don't have a clue who to vote for. We have some excellent choices, though. Obviously, everyone is going to vote Hart and Sandstrom up top. But I won't be a tad bit surprised if Stolarz or Ustimenko turn out better. Judging kid goalies is impossible.

From what I've seen, Sandstrom seems to have better natural reflexes than Hart. So I'll vote him. A not very scientific reason.

His numbers have been consistently average in the last 2 seasons, wasn't exactly lights out during the Juniors when i expected him to be the best in the tourney.

Well, Sandstrom was the best in the tourney. He was literally named best goaltender of the tournament. Also, didn't Appleyard say Sandstrom has the 2nd best numbers of any teenager in SHL history?

I went with Hart, but for some reason I keep thinking Sandstrom will be the one to emerge out of the two.

It's hard to believe that the reigning WJC Best Goalie is not our top goalie prospect.

But I too voted Hart.
