I don't understand this obsession of saving your best reliever for the 9th. Should have used him against the top of the order in a one run game. This obsession with the save stat is mind boggling.
It is probably the only stat in all of sports that dictates usage of players. It really is mind boggling.
But a lot of it is really human nature. If Gibbons (or any other manager) uses Osuna there and he gets bombed - he would get creamed with criticism. But he used his "8th inning guy," who had a bad night. It happens.
