Found out that this one is not started yet.

Locks to make the team:

Forwards: J. Kovar, V. Sobotka

Defenseman: T. Kundratek, M. Kempny

Goalies: will be chosen from the mix of players which includes A. Salak, D. Furch, J. Kovar or P. Francouz, and from NHL, possibly M. Neuvirth or O. Pavelec.

Europe

Forwards: L. Kaspar, P. Koukal, R. Smolenak, T. Filippi, L. Radil, T. Vincour, R. Horak, M. Zatovic, M. Erat, J. Novotny, T. Zohorna, R. Cervenka, D. Kubalík, D. Pribyl, M. Birner, J. Buchtele, R. Olesz, M. Gulas.

Defenseman: J. Kolar, O. Nemec, L. Krajicek, F. Novak, J. Jerabek, T. Voracek, M. Doudera, M. Troncinsky, J. Krejcik, P. Zamorsky.

AHL

Forwards: D. Simon, J. Vrana, P. Straka.

Defenseman: J. Nakladal, V. Mozik, M. Jordan, J. Hejda, L. Smid.

Possible NHL additions.

Doesn't look good...

J. Hudler, R. Polak, T. Plekanec, R. Vrbata, T. Fleischmann - all of them could be easily traded to some contender before the trade deadline.

That means we are realistically looking on players like:

M. Frolik (CGY), A. Nestrasil (CAR), M. Michalek (OTT), Z. Michalek (ARI), M. Hanzal (ARI), J. Voracek (PHI), R. Gudas (PHI) ... but of course it's still too early.

Radil - Sobotka - Cervenka

Gulas/Vrana

Kundratek - Nakladal

Mozik - Jerabek

Gold medal contender :sarcasm:

I didn't include NHL players because I would actually like to see the team team to be mainly Europe oriented. Probably the only two NHL players I would love to have there is Mrazek and Krejci. (Mrazek is an absolute stud and Krejci is my favorite player)

Of course Mrazek... but he will be in the playoffs with Detroit, pretty sure. You wouldn't want Voracek? I think that's not even a question, obviously.

I would want him. Voracek is one of the best wingers in NHL, he for sure would be useful there. It's just that I want to see the KHL/Extraliga younger players get a chance in top 6. Voracek, Hertl, Hanzal etc. would take that top 6 and even though it would make the team better... I want to see guys like Simon or Radil get some serious ice-time.

I know that's not going to happen, coach will probably want as many NHL players as possible. I just hope he doesn't take any old vets though. Especially on defense. Zidlicky or Rozsival... please no.

Sure, I understand your point here, and I agree with you. But you know, with the way WHC is hyped here, there is no way, they will take only young players to showcase them on this event, they have EHT for this purpose. They are not going to do this for WHC, they will take the best available and probably also more experienced players, no matter what. But yes, I hope that we won't see any 35+ players.

Obviously players like Radil or Simon should be there, or highly considered, no question about that.

We'd be lucky to avoid relegation with this sort of team. I'm not sure where this hipster idea that there's some bonanza of untapped potential among younger European-based players comes from. It's not 1996 any more. They're not in the NHL because they're not good enough.

Vrbata will probably follow them soon.

Radil - Sobotka - Vincour
Koukal

Kempny - Michalek
Jordan - Kundratek

Mrazek and Pastrnak probably most doubtful.

Edit: and Z.Michalek too... So maybe Gudas instead? So is this this roster way off?

hard to predict, not way off. Nestrasil is injured. Sobotka is more top six player. In my opinion we can discuss names like M.Michalek, Erat, Radil and Vincour and maybe some others...

The newest information regarding our team:

It is pretty much confirmed that Alexander Salak and Martin Erat won't go to WHC. They declined an invitation to the training camp.

Vincour, Sobotka (though he's still injured), Kempny and Furch should join the team soon. Cervenka, Rutta (players from Chomutov) should as well. The last 2 players who are remaining in the KHL play-offs are Tomas Filippi and Jan Kovar, both should join the team once they are available.

It appears to be sure thing that Pavelec, Hanzal, Nakladal, Jordan, and Sekac will all go to the camp once their seasons are over in the NHL.

No word on Frolik, Plekanec, M. Michalek and Z. Michalek yet.

Vrbata is out of the consideration, imo. He also doesn't have contract for the next season, so it's pretty much 100%.

Simon, Mozik or Vrana probably won't be available.

I would like to see Petr Holik in the training camp. He's had pretty good season, and was great in the playoffs. Smallish but quite skilled forward. Obviously, I am not saying that he should be on the final roster... But I would like to give him a chance in the training camp and in April games.

Thoughts?

It's confirmed that If Tomas Plekanec is healthy after the regulation season end then he will join the team.

Hanzal and Frolik are dealing with some injury but hopefully it's nothing serious, and only day-to-day.

Vladimir Sobotka remains still questionable.

Goalie Jakub Sedlacek and forward Hynek Zohorna cut from the roster. Milan Gulas will join the team soon.

I'm paying attention, just don't post!

It's hard because a lot of people on the board don't get to watch much European hockey, and there are less and less NHL Czechs in this tournament.

Plekanec is obviously a big add though.

:) Yeah, I know, yes it is true, less NHL players for us. Not the best times for Czech hockey.

I mean, there is a group of Czech users who used to post relatively lot during or before some major international tournaments. I am just surprised, it's all me in this thread.

Good to see some response tho!

But the team is shaping up pretty good with possibly Plekanec - Hanzal - Sobotka down the middle.

I read every post in this thread and when the tournament starts, I will be here and I will be active. It's just that right now all we can discuss are cuts from the team or possible NHL players. Not so exciting if you ask me :)

Cuts that happened so far are nothing surprising really, I hope players like Kubalik, Pribyl, Jerabek, Repik, Buchtele, Simek join the camp if they get kicked out in the Extraliga. Maybe even give chance to a 20 years old Indrak? He has the stats... (For camp at least) :dunno:

Haha, well there isn't too much to discuss really. And I find that as I get older, the world championship seems to become less important in my mind. Best on best (and WJC) is where it gets really interesting imo. Maybe it's also because I've watched us win two golds so winning again perhaps wouldn't be quite as exciting? Not sure.

But thanks for keeping these threads alive! We never have enough people on here :)
