Slow offseason. Let's get some distraction.

Top prospects

  • C Auston "Better than Jack?" Matthews
USA, 6'2 194, USNTDP --> ZSC Lions, NLA (EP)
  • RW Jesse "TV announcers must visit a course for that name" Puljujärvi
FIN, 6'2 181, Kärpät, Liiga (EP)
  • LD Jakob "at least there's one GOCB in the top5" Chychrun
CAN, 6'2 194, Sarnia Sting, OHL (EP)
  • LW Matthew "dat bloodline" Tkachuk
USA, 6'1 187, USNTDP --> London Knights, OHL (EP)
  • LW Max "did he really average 4.9 PIM/game last season?" Jones
USA, 6'2 190, USNTDP --> London Knights, OHL (EP)

The annual "math nerds vs dinosaurs" storyline

C Alex DeBrincat, USA, 5'7 161, Erie Otters, OHL (EP)
68gp, 51-53-104
  • (+) Most goals by a CHL rookie since Patrick Kane
  • (+) Draft-1 PPG is higher than the Draft+0 PPG of Dal Colle, Monahan, Meier, ...
  • (-) played on the Erie Otters with McDavid, D.Strome, etc.
  • (-) 5'7 161
Unrated by hockeyprospect.com (top30) and Future considerations (top30)
Rated #59 by THW

What will happen

  • Jets will draft #17 again
  • Vancouver makes some trades, selects #13, #14, #15
  • Vancouver selects a local boy, a goalie, and a projected third rounder who is gud in scrums
  • The guy who was ranked sixth on Chevy's list miraculously falls to #17
  • Jets select LD Chad Krys, USA, 5'11 183, USNTDP (EP)

Useful: THW resource list

Jost and Fabbro look like a good bet to be interesting story lines. Will teams be willing to use high picks on guys who played in the BCHL? Turris went 3rd overall but outside of him the earliest of the early are around 20, could see a later team add some really good value.

Or they boat could fall off the map and get picked in the 7th, who knows? :p

That can't happen.
1)He is not a centre
2)He is a D
:)

Good start to the '16 draft talk.

They're both late birthdays for their draft class and Matthews D-1 was more productive than Eichel's in the same league. Eichel's NCAA draft season was pretty special though so who knows, Matthews playing in the NLA will make any sort of comparisons a lot more difficult.

I was statchecking Fabbro using the THW list. I thought "how the hell is he a projected to be a first rounder?"
Then I noticed the mistake in their spreadsheet. He's born on June 20, 1998. Not on June 20, 1997.
Makes a bit more sense now.

Wonder if we'll actually take some defencemen with our higher picks this time around. :sarcasm:

I like the 2016 class and I think it has some pretty promising depth of talent.

I know everybody here wants a LHD with our first pick :)
Interesting LHDs not named Chychrun or Krys:

Olli Juolevi (EP), Finn joins London Knights OHL, projected 1st
Kale Clague (EP), Brandon WHL, projected 1st
Sean Day (EP), Mississauga OHL, OHL exceptional status, projected all over the place between top10 and early 2nd, does he really play at 247lb?
Max Lajoie (EP), Swift Current WHL, late 1st/early 2nd
Mikhail Sergachev (EP), a Russian joining Windsor OHL.

Our own pick won't be low enough, but like another poster indicated on a previous thread, if the Jets end up trading a player like Ladd and/or Buff, I'd love to somehow get a pick that could turn into Jakob Chychrun.

You add him to Morrissey and our forward pool and I think it's set up pretty nicely.

I know we won't have a shot at drafting him, but Matthews looks to be exactly what this team needs when making a serious push as a cup contender. The fact he's had good success with Connor and Roslovic on his wings just makes for an interesting hypothetical depth chart in 3-4 years.

Connor-Matthews-Roslovic
Petan-Scheifele-Ehlers
Lowry-Harkins-Armia
Lemieux-Copp-?

That's a pretty imposing forward group.

I have heard very good things about Benson.

Wonder if the Jets would select Benson, if he was BPA at their spot?

LW is an area of strength with our prospects right now. With Connor, Ehlers (though he plays RW as well), Lemieux, and Foley in their prospects pool, adding a guy like Benson would definitely move Ehlers to right side. And with Connor, Benson, Lemieux and possibly Lowry (if we're deep at c too), Foley, that's a pretty good left side.

Slightly older, as it is missing FA signings but helps. Positions by where they primarily played the year prior.

Missing:
Alexander Burmistrov (C) (on list but wasn't signed)
Matt Halischuk (L/R)
Matt Fraser (L/R)
Andrew MacWilliam (LD)
Paul Postma (RD) (on list but wasn't signed)
Adam Pardy (LD)
Julian Melchiori (LD) (on list but wasn't signed)

The Oilers will once again pick first overall. ;)

If Van gets local boy Benson, I think they will be happy.
He's actually a top 10 pick talent (thus far IMO).

Local boy, as he plays for Giants, but there is talk the Oilers like him too, as he from there. Would help the Oilers top 6 and give them a very nice 1-2 punch with Hall.

The Oilers may be picking in the 6-10 range and may have a shot at him.

I am most keen to follow Sean Day's season. I get the concerns, but the tools he possesses are special.

Well apparently Jost has committed to North Dakota so so much for my earlier post haha.

My mistake, that's for the season after, not this coming one.
