He signed a 2-year KHL contract, just before he was drafted. Leafs hold his rights for another 10+ years.
Teams own drafted Euro player rights for 4 years to align with NCAA drafted players.
CHL players it's 2 years after the draft.
If the Leafs Drafted a player 31st overall without doing their homework on whether or not he was interested in coming over to North America we're in trouble.
I hope he can put on some weight so he is closer to the 247 that his dad Alexei played at.
He's got a long way to catch up but if he can he could be a great power forward.
KHL/Russia have separate rules, there is no transfer agreement between the KHL and NHL, we hold his rights indefinitely
I am watching him play right now in a preseason game.
Only while he is under contract to the KHL.
His current deal ends in June 2018.
This kid is going to step right into a top line role when he comes over.
You guys should watch him play, I have already seen 2 of his games this year.
With a strong KHL season he could step into a complimentary role on our top line. Leafs seem to try to run a balanced top 9, so distinguishing who really is a top line player is useless. It's not like we (or most teams) put their 3 best players on a line. He has the skill to be a strong winger with a balanced game. Not expecting him to be a star, but the distinction of what is a top line is a bit over the top.No, he absolutely will not step into a top line role when he comes to the NHL.
