Surprised at how quickly we've collectively dismissed Garrett Sparks. No, he's not an NHL goalie at age 23, but are most goalies at that age? He's shown a consistent upward trend and has posted great stats at every level he's played at below the NHL. Even if his realistic projection is an NHL backup, that's a great deal more than most of our prospects will likely achieve.

I suppose at this point the criteria is absolute ceiling vs actual achieved development. I'm typically more of a ceiling guy, but would include Sparks on any iteration of a personal top 30. I don't think his failure to show immediate NHL readiness qualifies him as a complete write off.

Plus his twitter is hilarious.

I agree. If the Leafs didn't trade Reimer, Fan's would be singing a lot more praise towards Sparks. His first 5-6 games (before the trade) were stellar.

It wasn't until after the trade where he was exposed due to the tank... He lost his confidence and things quickly spiralled downhill.

But after the hint of success followed by his failures, I fully expect Sparks to rebound and be more focused than ever this offseason. I think he's still the Marlie's #1 G.

I think Nikita Korostelev will have a monster year in Sarnia, next season!

That's what I said last year, saying he would easily be in our top 15 at this time if he plays to his potential... Oops.

And no these are usually just top 30, pretty sure Schenn does a mid season one also.

In my opinion, unless they are actually exceptional in some way, goalie prospects are basically all the same and have negligible value.

There's a chance Sparks could evolve into a solid backup at the NHL level, but I couldn't care less about having a goalie with decent backup potential in our system. The fact is, Sparks will never be anything close to a starting goalie at the NHL level, he doesn't nearly have the technical abilities to be that guy. I have a lot of respect for the guy nonetheless, and I agree, he's a riot on twitter.

Just saw that we have a guy like Bracco at #17 while the Islanders have Christopher Gibson at #17. That makes me very happy.

i voted Bobylev, but I think if you're going to put one goalie on this list, it has to be Bibeau.

Why? Because of Spark's rough finish to an NHL season? And why question our scouting staff who thinks Middleton > Bobylev??

His first few games before the Reimer trade were quite impressive actually... I'll admit Bibeau and SParks are close, but if I had the choose to keep one, I'd want to keep Sparks.

Lets compare their career stats.

Garret Sparks: 138GP 71W 48L 9OTL 7716MIN 2.97GAA .909SV%
Antoine Bibeau: 126GP 56W 38L 10OTL 6538MIN 3.24GAA .901SV%

Severe simplification of the most important positional players in the organization. They are not all basically the same. The challenge for the Leafs is sifting through them to find the qualities of the good ones. I still believe in Bibeau. Showed far greater consistent over the AHL season this year. Looking forward to him having another good campaign and developing even further.
