You know how it's obvious that person doesn't know much about our team?

JVR and Kadri are together in their line up. The 2 have zero chemistry together.

That is debated often here.

I'd say the roles that Kadri and van Riemsdyk play are incongruous.

van Riemsdyk is a point producer, Kadri more along the lines of a defensive center on a match-up line.

I can't see van Riemsdyk excelling on a line sent out to play against the other team's top line.

When he's writer based in Montreal? Actually I'd still expect him to know more about a division rival. BTW, the NHL can't employ a columnist from the largest Canadian city in the league?

Waiting those players out and signing them when the market dry's up.

This is my personal opinion, but the longer that the Leafs fail to find a true partner for Rielly, the longer it will stunt his growth as a player.

There's probably 5 or 6 defencemen that are currently on the free agent market, that are capable of playing in the top 4 and are better than what the Leafs currently have.

Kyle Quincey & Kris Russell are 2 guys that I would pay right now on a cheaper, short term deal to come in and play this season with the Leafs.

As much as it's about tanking, it should also be about growing the players. And the way that you do that is through good coaching (which they have) and solid veteran voice on the ice, each and every night.

That's assuming those players would take a discount to come to the Leafs. Generally players take discounts to play for contenders not a team that just finished last place. I'm not interested in overpaying or overterming any of the Dmen still on the market.

With where the Leafs are at, it's also just important what the vets are like in the dressing room, training room, etc. which is a huge reason Polak was brought back. As for the guys left, that can't necessarily be said or at least not to the degree that it can be said about with a gym rat like Polak.

It's also known the Leafs already inquired about Russell + Wisniewski. Leafs could still circle back on them and just waive Corrado.

They clearly don't know much about our lineup.

JVR will almost 100% be lining up with Bozak and whoever wins the RW spot all between Marner/Brown/Sosh/etc...

And for the love of ****ing god keep Matt Martin as far as possible away from Matthews and Nylander.

Im probably alone but Id like to see something like this rolled out for the top 9 for a few games.

Soshnikov / Kadri / Komorov
JVR / Bozak / Nylander
Martin / Matthews / Marner (3M innovation! Line)

Lol... this. Martin's on a checking line with Laich. Greening actually had some chemistry with Nylander and maybe a decent vet stop gap on the left side with Matthews and Willy. This is how I see the forward group to start the season...

JVR Bozak Lupul
Komarov Kadri Marner
Greening Matthews Nylander
Martin Laich Holland

Sosh/Leivo/Brown knocking at the door

Michalek gets dealt/Robidas treatment, Lupul doesn't go quietly and has a P.A Paranteau type bounce back season (wishful thinking anyways)

Martin os criminally underrated by us. Id love to see him riding shotgun with Matthews and Marner/Nylander.

Hes not Colton Orr. This is a guy who can play hockey. Especially on a Sheltered 3rd scoring line

I think Michalek is being underrated since he was recovering from injury. He had a bigger role to play on Ottawa than Greening did, and should be a good veteran peice in our line-up.

Just to refresh people's memory:

I could see the Leafs rotating guys a lot. Keeping pairs (ie: JVR-Bozak, Kadri-Komarov, Matthews-Nylander), but rotating others.

My current lineup:

JVR-Bozak-Marner/Brown
Michalek-Kadri-Komarov
Laich-Matthews-Nylander
Martin-Holland-Hyman
Marner/Brown, Leivo

Waive Greening to see if someone will take his salary VIA waivers.

Rielly-Marincin (Was actually a very solid pairing)
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Hunwick-Carrick/Polak
Carrick/Polak

If the Leafs had gotten Stamkos they would have had to cut cap and Michalek was a guy who stood out. Since that didn't happen, I think they need that veteran compliment in the top-9, with 4 rookies in it. He's big, good defensively and plays well on the PK and PP. He's only on a 1 year term and at any time could be traded at 50% retained - 2M cap hit. Playing with the other highly skilled members of the top-9 for 50 games could significantly raise his value and make him a good chance at a high pick.

Komarov - Kadri - Marner
Michalek - Matthews - Nylander
JVR - Bozak - Brown
Martin - Laich - Leivo
ex. Holland

Waive Greening and start him in the AHL, if anyone takes him on waivers that would be a good thing.

I was just coming to post that line. I would like to see how that line plays together.

To start the season, I think we have to assume that the veterans will play, if for no other reason than to showcase them for potential trades. Unless more bodies are moved out prior to opening night, I can see Babcock going with something like this:

JVR-Bozak-Lupul
Komarov-Kadri-Soshnikov
Michalek-Matthews-Nylander
Martin-Laich-Greening

Rielly-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Carrick
Hunwick-Polak

Andersen

Marincin, Holland

As the season progresses, factoring in trades, injuries, and so forth, we should see an influx of considerable talent from the Marlies and within the system:

Marner
Brown
Hyman
Leivo
Leipsic
Rychel
Kapanen
