This seems like too many rookies to me but with all of them being waiver eligible I do not see how we are avoiding it.

Here is the way I'd line it up

JVR - Bozak - Nylander

Komorov - Kadri - Brown

Mickalek - Mathews - Marner

Martin - Laich - Greening

Roll three lines and use an experienced 4th line for energy and some heavy lifting defensively

Rielly Marincin

Gardiner Zaitsev (hopefully)

Hunwick. Carrick

Andersen

UFA or trade for backup (cap dump for cap dump would be nice) Niemi for Lupul? Or even Lehtonen?

I don't think michalek's getting bought out.

I think they might just trade someone.

I think i'd actually prefer Greening over Michalek when considering on ice play - though i have no idea how either is in the dressing room in terms of a mentor role.

If they win the Cowen arbitration case they would be okay cap-wise.

agreed, but they still might send a veteran down if they lose a job in camp though.

Losing the cowen case means they have to make a move before october.

I like the cut of your jib.

Though I would have Greening with Matthews\Nylander, and the Magical one with Bozak\JVR.

Where's Marner? I guess you guys don't feel he's ready and has to go back to juniors?

50% of posters feel he is 60% ready 60% of the time. Moreover, 60% of the time, it works everytime. Those 50% are, coincidentally, the same 50% who only understand 5% of hockey in Toronto. Therefore, we can conclude that based on a 74.675% conversion rate, everyone who leaves Mitch Marner off their opening night roster is a habs fan, and believes shea weber has a better than average PK Subban to Taylor Hall percentage ratio.

I think Greening was solid for us when he arrived last season, but when healthy, Michalek is a much more effective foward.

This. Ottawa knew what they were doing when they kept Michalek in a top 9 role, and sent Greening down to Binghamton. I like Greening and think he's an effective player, but not sure if he fits in our line-up...

Going to the home opener. Here is what I would love to see and what would peak my excitement.

JVR-Bozak-Marner
Komarov-Kadri-Soshnikov
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Michalek-Laich-Martin

Rielly-Marincin
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Hunwick-Carrick
Polak

Andersen
Enroth

I have no idea what to do with Holland, Leivo, Rychel, Lupul, Greening, etc. So many players, so few spots. This will be very interesting.

Signed: Jhonas Enroth

First three call-ups FWD: Rychel, Leipsic and Soshnikov

Let Sosh play in the AHL and dominate, hes still very young, would love to see him and KK go ham.

forward lines are the only thing relevant in this thread really

JVR - Kadri - Soshnikov - vs top lines
Michalek - Matthews - Nylander - Sheltered scoring
Komarov - Bozak - Marner - flexible 3rd line and insulation for Marner
Leivo - Holland - Martin - grinders with some scoring

Scratch
Greening
Laich
Lupul

I like it, but:

1) Can't see 6 forward rookies in our starting line-up in October.

2) Kadri's line will likely be a checking line, can't see them putting Marner in that role right away (could be wrong). Instead, I see Marner splitting time with Brown/Hyman/etc. I don't expect the Leafs will make Marner an every day player, but slowly integrate him into that role.

3) Can't see them using an all-rookie line (Leivo-Matthews-Nylander)

4) I think they'll start Laich on the wing (Think he'll be more effective there). I see Holland as our #4C for the time being.

After Bozak is dealt at the deadline and Nylander is looking ready for 2C duties:

Komarov-Kadri-Soshnikov
-Disrupt top lines, draw penalties against them on forecheck
JVR-Nylander-Brown
-Secondary scoring, draw opponents shut down unit
Michalek-Matthews-Marner
-Sheltered scoring
Martin-Laich-Greening/Hyman
-Mop up the leftover ~12 minutes
Leivo (50 games or so)
