Did Scott Powers mean to say Tootoo was "on waivers" or "not on waivers"?

Also, Carter is on waivers after signing an SPC with Minnesota

He did mean to say "not on waivers". After Chicago acquired Jurco on Friday, they send Hinostroza to the AHL. A good amount of Blackhawks fans got angry about him going down and the suggestion was made by one of the beat writers that it would have been Tootoo or Desjardins sent to the AHL but both required waivers to get there. So on Saturday morning, Tootoo was absent from pratctice which lead to everyone speculating he'd been put on waivers, so Powers was letting them know that he wasn't actually on waivers. It was later revealed he was injured.

Isn't Pulkkinen already in the AHL?

Explanation per the great Michael Russo
http://www.startribune.com/wild-signs-ryan-carter-recalls-zac-dalpe-pulkkinen-on-waivers/414813314/

Dalpe was placed on waivers I'm guessing to reset his waiver clock. He's at nine games, so if the Wild wants to send him down after tomorrow's game, he'd need waivers (and you can't waive anybody past Wednesday, so the Wild wouldn't want to get stuck).
Pulkkinen is way more complicated. This resets his waiver clock, too, but he's not happy he has been stuck in Iowa and wants to be elsewhere.

By placing him on waivers, the Wild's giving him that ability. If he clears waivers, this is also a way of the Wild letting all 29 GM's know that he's available for trade by Wednesday's 2 p.m. deadline without sending a memo to all 29 teams.

So bottom line with Pulkkinen: If he clears waivers, Wild's no doubt willing to trade him by Wednesday.

Why would you waive someone with the intention of trading him?

If he gets claimed, it's done & over with. (You're likely not looking for much of a return, more so just looking to move the player.)

Also, waiving a player may be more attractive to possible suitors (if they think the player will clear) because if he clears, now the player's waiver clock is reset and any team that trades for him can send him freely to the minors.

You could also just claim him and waive him again yourself.

You could also just claim him and waive him again yourself.

Teams almost never claim and waive a player, as first any team with lower waiver priority than you can then claim them. If they clear that hurdle, the original team that placed them on waivers actually has the option to take the player and place them in the minors themselves if they so choose - as the player has technically cleared waivers now... only if the player clears both hurdles would the team that just claimed and waived said player, would they then be able to put the player in their own minor system.

Thus if a team doesn't want them on their roster in the NHL, they aren't likely to make a claim, but they could be interested in making a trade for a player that has already cleared waivers so they can be placed in the AHL without being waived immediately, and only call them to the NHL if/when needed.

Lukas Sedlak has been playing 4th line center this season and he is out with an injury. This looks like a temporary move and may show that Columbus wont be active in getting a Center before the deadline.

We spend all that time helping Dalpe recover from injury and Columbus snatches him up.

Pretty sneaky, expansion cousin...

yeah this is what happened last week with the Devils/Leafs and Kalinin

Kalinin cleared, then Leafs sent a lower prospect in trade, and assigned Kalinin directly to Marlies

The funny thing is Columbus claimed Dalpe and assigned him right to the AHL. Because he had one more game remaining on the waiver clock, the Wild were trying to reset it, but this allowed Columbus to not only claim him but send him right to the AHL.

We did it with an eye to this Thursday's game against the Wild. Dalpe will score 4 goals, have two assists and sell popcorn during intermission. The Wild will leave Columbus devastated.

According to Michael Russo the Wild were trying to do Pulkkinen a favor by waiving him to give him a chance to be claimed, but ultimately he's not in the plans long term and may still be dealt.
