Looks like Pateryn is being sold to the highest bidder right now.
His wife went AWF on the team on twitter(google it).
If the cost is reasonable, which it should be, he'd be a fine depth D-Man to add.
Skates pretty well, big, playoff type game in him.
Easily slots in over Oleksy right now.

JR saying he'd like to add 1 maybe 2 D-Men.
This can be a potential 2nd one.

Wait did his wife go all Mrs CPZ?

Edit: lol I read what she wrote and wow. She went as far as saying different day same French bleep. Ouch. I mean I hate the habs and their ass backwardsness with the whole must speak French crap with coaches but she let twitter trolls get to her.

And Montreal and Toronto have the largest group of twitter trolls in the league. I'd send them some contract we'd like to dump for prospects and land him for some depth.

Yeah I don't see him being there in a week. I mean maybe they smooth that over... but if they were already scratching him, this certainly isn't going to make them play him. One thing I will say... it's probably a good thing for him that his contract doesn't expire this summer. That would have been awkward.

As for whether we should be interested... kinda meh on him. I mean maybe if it's for a 6th or something. But he's never really made much of an impression on me. He is 26 and a RHD, and plays a physical game, while not taking many penalties (or at least not when he doesn't want to)... so I guess there is that. But he certainly wouldn't be the first guy I'd be looking at.

You still need a partner on the other end agreeing with you. If they say all they're going to offer is Wideman,Johnson+ with some salary retained on DW do you really think we're in a position to turn that down? I mean we can always ask about someone else, but if they say no, this is a take it or leave it offer... I'm going to take it every single day of the week and not look back.

You do need a partner agreeing with you, but I can't see Calgary being that dogmatic, and I can't see them being the only team interested either.

And unless Flower really badly wants out now, I'd probably keep him and try trading him again right before the expansion draft anyway than trade him for Wideman.

I think the team knows Schultz is going to be back but the absence of Maatta is where they will try to fill that void. I don't know if there is a decent skating 2-way pk specialist type defenseman available but I would look to that kind of player as the main target. Then hopefully an upgrade on 3rd line C.

Cullen isn't a good fit and Rowney isn't a good fit to fill that role, neither is Fehr. All 3 are solid options for the 4th line though if an injury should occur the latter 2 being the call-ups.

I think if the Bolts are still in it, they still look to dump a big contract and I would target Valtteri Filppula. He's a solid point producer, had a down year but is on pace for 47-50pts this year, is a good skater, reliable at both ends and can pk, and he's a solid playmaker, much much better than Bonino could ever hope to be. Bones is just slightly better at faceoffs with 48% vs 46%. But if it helps, Filppula was a 52% guy the previous 2yrs before this one, so he's definitely better than those numbers indicate. Bones on the other hand, 50% or better only once in his career for a full season.

I'd actually go after Jon Merrill over Brendan Smith. Merrill is a better fit than Smith is, but would the Devils do that deal? Would Shero take Pouliot and a 2nd for him?

Friendly reminder that Dennis Wideman is goddamned awful and has been for years. Not sure there's a worse D in that division. Maybe someone on Arizona.

I don't think Franson is totally useless.

He does start 54.4% of his shifts in the DZ and is 50.4CF/50.5FF.

Compare that to Maatta who's 49.6% DZ starts and is 49CF/50.4FF.

Simply put if Franson got Olli's starts/minutes, he'd most certainly be over 50CF/FF.

ETA: I don't believe JR would want him tho cuz he's not the fleetest of foot and i'm fine with that.

Value wise I do not blame them for wanting something that starts with him. D, playing 20+ minutes a night, 2nd pro season, 23 yrs old. Of course they would want Sprong. And on pure value? Hutton is worth more then Sprong is.

Except right now Huttons not very good. Hes a PP specialits only. He blows EV.

I have to say, the deadline addition that intrigues me most is Hanzal. That guy would be such an upgrade over Bonino that I would probably be willing to pay a first or Pouliot+2nd, just as a rental. Even if Bonino rebounds, you can play him at 4C or at wing on any line, really.

He gets injured alot and we are constantly dealing with injuries, are luck he gets hurt on his first shift

I have a bad feeling it's MAF for Wideman, 2nd, 4th
Just remember I think we all kinda through up a little in our mouths when we got Hal Gill and I think most would say he was better then expected

I've watched a lot of Pateryn over the last couple of years, the guy is a depth defenseman, something this team needs. He is a #5 -6 at best.

I'm in the minority around here but if GMJR can get the AVS to retain I would look at Francois Beauchemin

I have to admit I know nothing about him, what do you think it would cost us, and is he better then our AHL defensemen we could call up

Well Beauchemin is almost done, he doesn't have much hockey left in him. Pateryn on the other hand is someone we can keep and move forward with while remaining our #6-7

He is definitely better than our call ups, maybe not Pouliot in the long run but better than Gaunce and Oleksy. Also can play a little nasty game. All he needs is confidence, something he has never gotten from Therrien in Montreal

Maybe we should just create a new pairing? Cole-Schultz can handle 20 or so minutes.

Move Maatta for a forward. Put Daley on LTIR if need be. Bring in some new blood.

It was amazing the transformation in the top two lines last night when Sully pulled his head out of his butt and did what was so obvious to all of us. I just hope he keeps Horny on the 1st line when Sheary returns.

As it is we have a respectable set of forwards:
Sheary - Crosby - Hornquist
Hagelin - Malkin - Kessel
Wilson - Bonino - Guentzel
Kunitz - Cullen - Fehr

- Rust(???) / Kuhn

And our defense.... woof....
Dumoulin - Letang
Cole - Schultz
??? - ???

- Daley (???) / Maatta (???)

So looking at this lineup do you think JR sticks to 'big game hunting' with a roster that is Cup Capable but needs a big shakeup? But rather than Duchene/Kane he shifts gears and goes after Shattenkirk ? Or does JR only go after the big name player when they aren't a rental like he did with Kessel?

If we have to move Kessel up with 71 just to have two competent scoring lines, we're gonna need an impact forward to get past Washington.

And with the injuries and Maatta-Daley sucking, we might need a couple D if not a Shattenkirk.

JR will try to land an impact guy. I have little doubt. Hes not gonna be around as GM forever.

Beauchemin is awful and those types of defensemen always comes here and suck. Avoid at all costs.

If there's a buy low, low risk defenseman on Colorado we want, it's Wiercioch. He's someone that I think can be salvaged by Martin
