He already blocked a trade to Toronto. He's able to give a list of 8 teams he won't go to. I always wonder if those lists are made up of teams they actually don't want to go to or if they're teams they feel would be most likely to be able to trade for them.

I think it depends. We've heard of a couple players who've made up their lists with the sole intention of making it damn near impossible to trade them. Wisniewski was the most recent one I can remember.

But I think most of them just list teams they wouldn't want to play for. I mean depending on your contract, you're stuck there for at least part of a season. If the team sucks or the location sucks, it could be a rough year.

I think it should be way more important to a player to keep himself out of cities he didnt think would mesh with his way of life... Id start my list with Philly, then add the New York teams... because id hate every minute there, but thats just me...

I think Cullen will sign for 1M. Maybe a smidge over.
You also have to remember this very likely would mean Sunny starts in the A(as he should) so Sunny's cap hit is out and his $ counts towards Cully in terms of cap calculations.

Cullen deserves a decent raise. I'd be very surprised if it's not something closer to Fehr's number. And that's more than fair. 16 goals. 4 in the playoffs. Buried defensive zone starts against top end players and still did well as a possession player.

Just move Fehr. Plug Sundqvist into his spot if need be.

Cullen wants back, yes! Time to move Fehr and pay Cullen 1.5m for another year and get a little more cap space back.

You can move Fehr and keep Sundqvist in the ahl where he needs to be to round out his offense and other stuff and still have a solid roster.

Cullen is far more important than Fehr at any point during their tenures.

I'm kind of surprised that Cullen decided this quickly that he wanted to come back, JR took his time. It makes me think that he specifically wants to be in Pittsburgh, although maybe that's optimistic on my part.

I think i figured out how JR came to the "1M cushion" after playing around with Arm-chair GM.

After you sign Cullen to just under 1M, then send all the waiver exempt guys down to get as close to 73M as possible before LTIR'ing Dupuis, then bring Pooh, Murray back up, you have around 1M is cap space.

Yes, but if you only get to name 5 places... would you hate your time there more or less then in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Arizona, Montreal, etc?

Montreal has a hard ass as a coach and the city (despite having lots of English) is still a French city... is that what you want? Maybe you don't like real winters (and sorry, that mush you get down there doesn't really count), in which case spending months on end at -20 would suck ass - especially in a place like Winnipeg/Edmonton/Calgary.

Look I'm not dumping on those places... but at least teams like PHI/NYI/NYR are all competitive teams in decent markets. Thus I think very few players have NYR/PHI on a NTC. The odd guy maybe, but it's probably pretty few and far between.

Given his age, I doubt it. 1x1m max - potentially even less.

What they probably dangle (and against the CBA) is that if Cullen likes it here (org/city), they mention that they would be willing to hire him on to the staff payroll after next season as some sort of advisor (like Gonchar).

Cullen back at the right price makes sense. Kind of expected him to ride off into the sunset, but wanting to play as long as possible also makes sense.

As far as picking teams for trade clauses I think its pretty easy if you put yourself in their shoes. Pick teams that would essentially block the deal if you like where you are, or pick teams you absolutely wouldn't play for. Maybe some guys would prefer to play where the weather is nice, or for a competitive team, or a team with a rich history, every player and every situation is different.

edit: More on Cullen. I would expect him to want to cash in somewhere being that any year could still be his last. Or maybe he really likes the team and takes a sweetheart deal in hopes of getting a job with the organization after retiring.

Could we just sign Cullen to a professional tryout and then sign him after Dupuis goes on LTIR?

It's a one year deal? The guy was the best 4th line center in the league last season. If we're only going to pay him what he got last season, I bet he's gone. Plenty of teams would love to have him.

I'd sooner trust Cullen for one more year at 2 mil than Fehr with his injury history for another 2 years.

I think back to Cullen's article where he said he doesn't want to keep uprooting his kids because they're getting older. He also said he would only play in a place where it would be a cool experience and playing for Mario and with Sid and Geno was that place.

I'm thinking it's us or a team like Chicago and that's about it, personally.

If he plays anywhere, odds are it's here. He's made ~35m over his career. I doubt he squabbles over a couple hundred grand.

Is CHI going to offer him any more money? He scored his pts last year because he was playing more than a #4C for different chunks of it. Is it possible he leaves? Absolutely. But I see him back here next year with only a minimal raise over what he made this year. Yes he will likely get offers for more money elsewhere (or at least teams kicking tires), but unless Rutherford basically tells him all I can offer you is the league minimum, I think he's back here.
