So yeah, that Bennett guy. I don't see why we wouldn't sign him on the cheap for one year and let him compete for a spot.

We know he's a top 6 calibre winger when healthy, so treat him like a bonus and see what happens. Our 50 man roster isn't so full of quality talent that we should just cut bait with players as talented as Beau. Low risk, high reward.

Re: Bennett

I think a good use for him could be for protection come expansion draft time. Bennett+pick and in return, Team X doesn't not select XXXX.

Beat me to it. Please trade for Zucker, I'd love that.

He'd fit what we're doing like a glove. And even though I think BB's the more talented player, the injury history and LW/RW thing would get me on board with that type of change of scenery trade.

I think we'd probably have to add on top of Beau though, maybe Wilson and BB for Zucker and a pick?

Do you think Bennett for Zucker is reasonable? I would think we would need to add. I'm not even sure anyone will see acquiring Bennett as a positive with his injury history.

Having said that, Zucker could be a nice add on the left side with Sheary, Hagelin, Kuhn. Then go get Nuke and game over:

Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist
Zucker-Malkin-Nuke
Hagelin-Bones-Kessel
Kuhn-Cullen-Rust
Fehr-Wilson

That's depth.

I'd hang on to Wilson. We don't know what we have in him yet but he looked good before his injury. Zucker looked awful in the few times I saw him this season. Just a complete non-factor. I'd lean towards a straight swap of BB (even a small +) for Zucker. Other than that, don't get too crazy.

Id like to keep wilson. He was doing good before injury. Never know if sheary might go back to being bad, wilson showed good chemistry with sid.

We can't assume it will last forever, but the play of Sheary next to Sid right now makes the LW situation look a whole lot better for next season.

I'd be inclined to keep Kessel with Bonino and look for a player to compliment Malkin. I could see something like this:

Sheary - Crosby - Hornqvist
FA/Trade - Malkin - Sprong
Hagelin - Bonino - Kessel
Kuhnhackl - Cullen - Rust
Wilson

Eject Kunitz, maybe Fehr (though I still do like what F-16 brings)

Theres lots of options there and to be honest Wilson - Malkin - Sprong wouldn't be bad either. I think we need one more piece though, then Sully can mix and match at his leisure.

Future's so bright, I gotta wear :yo:

Yup I'd keep Wilson too. He's gotta stay healthy, but he could be a nice top 9 player pretty soon.

Zucker didn't have a good year so the Wild can sign him for pretty cheap still and see what they have in him. I doubt they're going to give up on him for another unknown like Wilson.

I think I'd rather keep Wilson, anyway. I like his overall game, whereas Zucker is more of a score off the rush and disappear type of player.

Yeah I doubt they would sell low on him, but if he were actually made available, I'd love for the Pens to get in on him. A "score off the rush and disappear" player would be something Crosby could really use.

The Pens won't be getting Nichushkin, but I think Zucker is a real possibility. I'd rather just OS him at like $2.5-$3 million and lose a 2nd rounder though.

Maybe the biggest thing I like about Mike Sullivan is that he's kind of proven a hypothesis I've always had about top guys in the AHL who can light it up in the AHL against other guys who are pretty much just a step away from the NHL, certainly the MUST be better than the typical "Grind Line" guys teams usually bring in.

I disagree. Sheary is doing more than scoring a couple goals off the rush every few games. He's backchecking, getting the puck to Sid, getting open, working the corners and maintaining cycles.

If this is how Sheary is going to play in the NHL, leave him with Sid.

And having Wilson as a backup option who was drafted as a Chris Kunitz clone, was given spot duty in that role, produced and displayed some of the traits Sid likes in a linemate is good enough for me for now.

If Sheary gets overwhelmed physically, and Wilson's injury is something that's going to carry over into next season, then look into building up your depth at that position.

When Zucker's right he's also doing other things to help you win when he's not scoring. He's crazy fast and likes to get in on the forecheck. I always thought he'd be a hood Kunitz replacement for Sid. He's a little smaller, but he is a better goal scorer.

DK had a nice little story about when Cullen signed.

This was the sixth of August, 2015, and Cullen had just taken pen to paper on a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Penguins, an event that drew pretty much the fanfare one would expect for a 39-year-old center signing for close to the NHL minimum.

So who could possibly be calling?

“Hello, is this Matt?â€

The voice sounded familiar.

“This is Sidney Crosby.â€

Cullen’s carried the Stanley Cup. He’s played on both coasts with some of the league’s best and brightest. So it’s not like hearing from anyone in the sport would floor him. What followed was a casual conversation.

And then …

“The next day, we’re out house-shopping,†Cullen was recalling Saturday afternoon inside Consol Energy Center’s home locker room, well after the Penguins’ 6-3 punchout of the Rangers in Game 5 of their Stanley Cup playoff series. “I’m not talking about advice or giving tips. I mean, he was out there with me to show me the houses himself, places he thought where I could be comfortable.â€

Cullen shook his head in looking to his left toward the captain’s stall.

“Think about that. Who am I? I’m some fourth-line guy coming here to this team loaded with tars and … that showed me something. It did.â€

So is this what i am thinking it is? Cullen is staying? 1 more year, then hangs around the team teaching the young guys.

This was from last summer, when he first signed. The story went on to talk about Crosby's leadership in depth. But I thought this one kinda stuck out as a nice story that many wouldn't normally hear about.

But I do think that win or lose, he'll come back for another season (assuming no injuries). I think he's just having too much fun not to.
