Adam Clendening: A (What more could you possibly ask?)
Dan Girardi: There are no appropriate letters
Kevin Klein: B- (quietly been great in possession since his **** start)
J.T. Miller: C- (hasn't been great but needs to be away from Hayes)
Matthew Puempel: B+ (good possession 4th liner)
Kevin Hayes: F (Great at finishing off chances, an absolute mess at literally everything else)
Marc Staal: C+ (dictionary definition of "whatever" which at this point is fine for Staal)
Jesper Fast: A- (elite defensive forward)
Chris Kreider: A+++ (best player on the team right now)
Derek Stepan: B (still overrated defensively, but his production is borderline elite when he on. Still needs to be "on" more often)
Nick Holden: A (what can you say?)
Oscar Lindberg: D (not cancerous, but does almost nothing well)
Jimmy Vesey: B- (started out amazing, hasn't been great lately)
Ryan McDonagh: B+ (Outstanding at times and shackled with the worst player in the league, but still prone to horror shows away from Girardi like he had tonight)
Mats Zuccarello: C (good possession, good playmkaing, but does need to score more goals)
Nicklas Jensen: A- (done everything asked of him as a 4th liner in a small sample)
Michael Grabner: A- (exceeded offensive expectations tenfold, helping fix the penalty kill)
Marek Hrivik: A+ (outstanding possession 4th liner)
Rick Nash: A (14-15 Nash was back before he got hurt; now we'll see...)
Brandon Pirri: D (Better at possession than anticipated but he was brought here to score goals)
Brady Skjei: D (he skates well, and....um, he skates well)
Pavel Buchnevich: B (Rest in Peace. Great career.)
Mika Zibanejad: B+ (Scoring could be better, but possession is fantastic)

Henrik Lundqvist: C- (Came into tonight with a .912. He's better than that. End of discussion)
Antti Raanta: A- (Solid as always and picked up Hank at times)

Jeff Gorton: A (identified weaknesses extremely well and did everything possible so far)
Alain Vigneault: F- (we remain the only one of 30 teams that doesn't cycle and one of only 30 that would still be playing Girardi)
Scott Arniel/Power play: B+ (people would **** on it if it was 35%, let's face it. It's been quietly fine)
Jeff Beukeboom/Darryl Williams/Penalty killing: A- (Night and day from last year)
Benoit Allaire/Goaltending: B- (not bad, but again, could be better)

New for 2017:
Sam Rosen: A++++++++++++ (He's Sam ****ing Rosen)
Joe Micheletti: C+ (whatever)
John Giannone: C- (Not Sam ****ing Rosen)
Al Trautwig: A+ (his awkwardness is funny)
Bill Pidto: D (his awkwardness is not funny)
Ron Duguay: A (love the suits)
Steve Valiquette: D when talking about Lundqvist, A when talking about literally anything else. Smart guy, let's bias get in the way.
Kenny Albert: A- (haven't heard many games on radio this year, but generally fine)
Dave Maloney: A- (see Kenny)

The defense has been trash. Holden and Grabner were huge acquisitions. Gorton's grade jumps up to B+ or higher territory if he can address the defense.

Surprised to see anything above a C for Lundqvist. He's been barely average overall and pretty bad by his own standards.

Vigneault is stupid with who he plays and how he holds guys accountable, but still gets the team to win far more often than not.

At the end of this I hope someone assigns point values for each possible score, adds them up and averages them out. Would be fun to see the consensus on each player.

Please rate the following on an A through F scale after 41 games and provide any comments.

Adam Clemdaning B feel like he deserves an incomplete. Want to see more of him.
Dan Girardi D giving it his all. Playing better then last season. But...clock is ticking
Kevin Klein - D From Viking to Hipster! Not a fan of what Manhattan has transformed him into!
J.T. Miller - A Is a factor in every game. Always makes himself noticed even if he was on 3rd or 4th line. Has seized opportunity, and cemented himself into the teams Core.
Matthew Puempel C Didn't expect anything from him. Was a waiver claim. He is showing that he can play at this level. Verdict isn't out if he can contribute at this level.
Kevin Hayes A Incredible bounce back from the sophomore slump. Makes things happen on a nightly basis.
Marc Staal C Downside of his career, but has been ok for the team this year.
Jesper Fast B This guy got a lot of heat early on but has become one of my favs. Not going to wow anyone but does so much of the little things right. Can be counted on in all situations.
Chris Kreider A Best forward in the team. Ice tilts his way so much that the other players just look to bounce pucks off him in front of the net. Can't wait to Zbad to come back!
Derek Stepan B Pretty impressive performance for a 2nd line center! 2nd best forward on the tram.
Nick Holden A Came to the Rangers looking like Doogie Howser. Was a pocket protector away from NHL super nerd! At the Midway point he should officially change his name to Nuke. Nuke Holden. That how much of a badass he is!
Oscar Lindbergh D Just can't get it right this season. It's like the guy that plays in the better men's leagues. He's there cause he can skate with the ex NHL'ers, but he never going to be a factor.
Jimmy Vesey C One of my favorite players. Giving him a C because he's better then the sum of his point totals.
Ryan McDonagh A Having a solid season all around.
Mats Zuccarello C Becuase he's Zucc and I know he's capable of great things. Need to step it up a notch
Nicklas Jensen D The Great Dane has been a great disappointment!
Michael Grabner A Incredible overachievement. Marion Gaborik is an excellent comparison
Marek Hrivik C Opportunity is knocking. Door is open. Hiving has stubbed his toe in the doorway
Rick Nash B kind of season you would expect with regularity for 7.8 mil. Needs to keep it up when he gets healthy
Brandon Pirri D Preseason the guy was the second coming of Pavel Bure. Since he got beat up on Thanksgiving I feel like he's invisible
Brady Skjei A Answering a lot of questions for the Rangers defense. Top 4 all day.
Pavel Buchnevich C only because no player at this level should be out for core strength training. If...If the core training is ******** then he gets a B. Cannot wait to see him make sweet music on the PP.
Mika Zibanejad B Before the incident was pacing for his best season. Love watching this kid skate.

Henrik Lundqvist D Not very Hank like so far
Antti Raanta A Amazing contribution from a backup

Jeff Gorton B Didn't have a lot to work with. Bad contracts from the former painted him in a corner. Has done well. He's a RHD away from an A
Alain Vigneault A Gets a lot of crap but the reality is nobody thought this club would be where they are right now

I could probably come up with something if I find time.

Gusta: when do you think would be an appropriate cutoff point to tally the numbers?

Anyone who hasn't played at least 50% of our games will receive an incomplete.

Adam Clendening(Incomplete)-Hasn't played enough to grade. About what you'd expect of a 7D though.
Dan Girardi(B)-A lot of people won't grade him fairly, but he's had a decent season. A few bad games, but has been mostly good.
Kevin Klein(C)-Worse than last year. Not terrible though.
J.T. Miller(A-)-He's improved a lot. One of our best two way players now. Scoring has improved, also.
Matthew Puempel(Incomplete)-Done okay, not much more, but hasn't played enough for a grade.
Kevin Hayes(A-)-Very similar situation to Miller.
Marc Staal(B)-Uneventful season, which is good for his role.
Jesper Fast(B-)-Another player who has had an uneventful season, which is good for his role
Chris Kreider(A+)-He's been our best player. Turning into a star winger.
Derek Stepan(A-)-He's started much better than he usually does. Been one of our better players.
Nick Holden(A-)-Very good season so far. Didn't start well, but has been playing well since.
Oscar Lindberg(C-)-Doesn't have much of an impact on games. Is kind of just there.
Jimmy Vesey(B-)-He's done okay. Not as well as the Vesey sweepstakes might've indicated, but a useful player.
Ryan McDonagh(A)-He's one of our best players every season. Excellent start to this season, not that good recently.
Mats Zuccarello(B+)-Not as good as last season, but very reliable.
Nicklas Jensen(Incomplete)-Hasn't played enough for a grade, but looks average at best. Maybe even bad.
Michael Grabner(A-)-Scoring has trailed off, but he's had a really good season for what could've been expected.
Marek Hrivik(Incomplete)-Hasn't played enough for a grade, but I think he's been very good. Looks like a good 4C.
Rick Nash(A)-He's had a much better season than last season. Injuries don't help, but he's been very good when he's played.
Brandon Pirri(C-)-Started very well, but has been bad of late. Not a helpful player when he isn't scoring. I'd cut him when all the forwards return.
Brady Skjei(B)-He's a rookie, so that has to be considered, but he's struggled defensively. Done well with scoring, skating, puck moving.
Pavel Buchnevich(Incomplete)-I thought he was playing really well to start the season until he got injured.
Mika Zibanejad(Incomplete)-Same situation as Buchnevich.

Henrik Lundqvist(C+)-Just not been good enough. Playing like a back up. Alternates good and bad games.
Antti Raanta(A)-Been the best back up in the league. He's played much better than Lundqvist.

Jeff Gorton(B)-Mixed bag. Some good, some bad. Overall, done an okay job.
Alain Vigneault(A)-I thought he's had a very good season. Not that much to critique.
Scott Arniel/Power play(B+)-Some strange PP decisions, but not helped by injuries. PP has been good.
Jeff Beukeboom/Darryl Williams/Penalty killing(A-)-Penalty kill has been good.
Benoit Allaire/Goaltending(B)-Done a good job with Raanta, bad job with Lundqivst.

In terms of an overall grade: This team might not be perfect, but man am I excited for the future. We have, imo, one of the brightest minds in hockey running out team in JG. Don't think we've ever had a guy this smart (or young) in office. I am fully confident that we'll be an elite team within the next two years, and for quite some time after.

Adam Clendening(Incomplete) Has been decent in limited action

Dan Girardi(C) Grading him on a curve relative to himself. He's been better than last year, but still not very good.

Kevin Klein(D) Looks really slow and the offense is missing

J.T. Miller(B+) Made some nice strides this season, but still prone to some careless plays defensively

Matthew Puempel(Incomplete) Has had a few good games, but need to see more.

Kevin Hayes(A-) Was in my doghouse last year, but looks like a totally different player this year. I wish he would shoot more.

Marc Staal(C) Sometimes looks really good and sometimes he's painful to watch.

Jesper Fast(C) Does a lot of little things well, but the offense is missing.

Chris Kreider(A) Beasting on a consistent basis.Reaching his potential.

Derek Stepan(B) Solid performance.

Nick Holden(A) Gets an A for outperforming expectations, but probably a B overall.

Oscar Lindberg(C) Not impressive, but gets a pass sort of from the impact of recovery from his injury.

Jimmy Vesey(B) Has cooled off, but does a lot of things well. Better transition to the NHL than expected.

Ryan McDonagh(A-) Makes some mistakes probably from trying to do too much by himself. Could be even more impressive with a real partner.

Mats Zuccarello(B) A pleasure to watch his vision and playmaking. Just needs to bury a few more.

Nicklas Jensen(Incomplete) Not impressed in limited action.

Michael Grabner(A)- Has been way better than expected and it great bang for the buck. His speed has an impact that doesn't always show up directly on the scoreboard like Hagelin.

Marek Hrivik(Incomplete) Has been ok, but one of those players I hope isn't in the line-up once we're healthy.

Rick Nash(A-) Has been a force when healthy. Nice to see after last season's disaster. Nice to watch defensively.

Brandon Pirri(D) Belongs on a team like the Avalanche. Had a great pre-season and early start to the season, but is pretty useless out there. Needs to sit out when the team is healthy.

Brady Skjei(B) Playing reasonably well despite some lapses which is probably expected considering his age.

Pavel Buchnevich(Incomplete) Slow to score, but was playing really well until he got hurt. Too bad. Can't wait to see more.

Mika Zibanejad(Incomplete) Started off great before cooling off. Can't wait to have him back.

Henrik Lundqvist(C-) I love the King, but he hasn't been cutting it. Too inconsistent and too many softies.

Antti Raanta(A) Has been great. Hope we don't lose him to Expansion.

Jeff Gorton (A-) Rejuvenated this team with the Mika trade, Holden, and Grabner signing. This team hasn't been whole in a while, but it was flying when healthy. Couldn't expect a miracle by trading Staal/Girardi. There is still plenty of time to improve the defense by the deadline.

Alain Vigneault (B) Should play Girardi less and mix in Clendening more often. I hate our man to man defensive coverage. Our guys aren't out of position as often as last year, but more than I would like.

Scott Arniel/Power play(B) Much better this year despite still missing a legitimate point man.

Jeff Beukeboom/Darryl Williams/Penalty killing(A-)-Penalty kill has been really good. Grabner helps a lot.

Benoit Allaire/Goaltending(A-) Great job with AR. The King is just slowing down. Can't blame Allaire for that.

Kevin Hayes: F (Great at finishing off chances, an absolute mess at literally everything else)

Marek Hrivik: A+ (outstanding possession 4th liner)

This guy serious?

Hayes on pace for 60 points is a F, but a player who will be out of the lineup in 2 weeks when we get players back is an A+.

Beginning to think he doesn't even watch the games but only calculates his cosi to find determine who played "good".

I kinda like "fuddle"

Beginning to think he doesn't even watch the games but only calculates his cosi to find determine who played "good".

Obviously those are based on expectations. If not, then just give the first liners an A, the second liners a B, the third liners a C, and the fourth liners a D.

Hrivik has very little natural NHL talent and is playing way above his head. Hayes is the most talented player on the roster by some distance and is constantly hemmed in his own zone.
