If the catcher doesn't catch strike three, and it's not a foul tick off the bat, the ball is live and the catcher has to either tag the batter with the ball or throw it to first like on a ground ball as the runner can try to beat out a throw/tag and get to first safely

On a strike out the catcher has to catch the ball to record the put out. When he misses it the ball is still live and the runner go go towards first.

catcher has to catch strike 3. If not you can run to 1st as long as it wasn't occupied before the pitch. If there's 2 outs you can run to 1st even if it is occupied, runner on 1st would have to go to 2nd then however.

Catcher has to throw it to 1st to force him out or tag the hitter if he picks up the ball in time.
