OT: 2015 Ottawa Music Festival and Concerts Thread

It was underwhelming. He had a minimalist setup (dynamic light bank, but nothing else on stage), the backing music/DJ/vocals were all canned. He barely engaged with the crowd, and when he did it was kind of confrontational ("I heard you hate me in Ottawa, but I don't care").

I've seen a lot of shows (I volunteer backstage just about every year), and this one was nothing special. The crowd was absurd, but the show was just ok.

One thing I thought was neat (more in theory than in practice) was how he was obscured the entire show. He had smoke machines going the whole time and the way the lights were set up, he was basically in shadows for the majority of the show. It was interesting because he's so visible normally (through media, mostly), but when you see him live he's like a shadow.

He thinks the hate towards him is bad here wait untill he is in Toronto.

Thought this was a cool pic from when KISS played Bluesfest in 09.

This is the concert that is in the record books for one of the loudest concerts ever recorded at 136 db. I think Hansen once hit 140, and Manowar hit 139 in a sound check. But it's still cool that one of the loudest concerts ever was in Ottawa of all places.

Funny-ish story about the Kiss concert. At the beginning, Paul Stanley kept mispronouncing the name of our city as "Ooh-tawa" like some weird cross between Outais and Ottawa. I was near the sound board and Shannon Tweed was there with her daughter. Shannon was ANGRY. I don't think she took it well that he didn't know the name of the city she lived in for awhile.

Wilco and Built to Spill on the same day is just a treat.

Anyone who's a fan of 90s alt/indie rock (not post grunge) should give Built to Spill a shot. Keep It Like a Secret and Perfect From Now On are two of the best albums of the decade.

Well Wilco is my favourite band so I can't wait to go see them again.

Also, their new album is out and you can download it for free on their website. It's pretty rad.
