Christian Fischer had 15 goals in under 80 games last year. Could you imagine if he wasn't on such a bad team how much better his numbers would be?

Is Zacha really that much of a lost cause?
Absolutely not. He was one of the best pkers in the entire NHL last year, and has arguably a top 3 shot on the entire team. For him I think it is mostly a confidence issue. So when he gets that solved, he’s gonna be good. Being underrated in this poll though

Thanks for the reply. He was talked about heavily on our board before 2015 draft and while I'm glad we chose Rantanen Zachas tools have always been highly intriguing.

Generally bigger players like Zacha have taken longer to develop. Look at players like Scheifele and Couturier. They really only became who they 4-5 years out from their draft. It is all about the development curve the player takes

You know this poll is bad when so far dissapointing magic beans get taken ahead of proven top 4 dman.

It's only 3 years removed from the draft. I'd still take potential (Strome, Kaprizov) over players like Nutivaara and Zacha who have played in the NHL but haven't shown elite game changing skills.

It's funny about Virtanen and Zacha going back to back at 6th overall.

all the player rankings had Zacha as top 10

Name recognition is a factor. Nutivaara has spent the last two years playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets, arguably their 3rd most important D last year. Travis Dermott spent most of the last two years playing for a higher profile team, the Toronto Marlies.

Sad but true.

When it comes to game changing skills, Nutivaara is closer to the former two players than he is to Pavel Zacha. He's also more skilled than Dermott, Dunn, and Carlo. This poll is just name recognition at this point.

It's actually about projection.

Funny how you only single out Dermott though.

Kaprizov, Samsonov, Chabot, Strome and others all have less than a season played.

From what I've seen he is not. First of all he is already 24, 3 years older than most on this list; which already puts him behind the eight ball in terms of potential, he's just about hit it. He's a solid defenseman – sound and reliable in his own zone, decent offensive game, great skating. Maybe he is more skilled than Zacha but he is not more skilled than Dermott, Dunn, and Carlo imo.

Nutivaara not more skilled than Carlo? Dunn I really don't know too well, but my sense is Blues fans would be happy if he becomes a solid middle pair D, more or less where Nuti arleady is. Dermott has some skill, I'll give you that. Not Carlo.

I know he's older. But some guys are late bloomers. Some top out early, Carlo seems like that might be him. You have to look at the skillset and where the potential is. And Nutivaara is fast, smart, agile, great shot, great touch. He's not strong, but that's about all you can knock.
