I only see his size emphasized hugely by people who don't like him. But anyway, I have to disagree with you about the advantage of size "disappearing" in the NHL. I see every game how players are able to use size to good effect- not so much our players unfortunately.
You are free to dislike Strome of course, but his skill is impressive and shouldn't lightly be ignored.
I wonder if you are exaggerating the "problem" of his skating. My sense is that he is very strong on his skates in a way that will be a big advantage when the play is established in the offensive zone. In that case I would say it's a strength, especially because he plays a style of slowing down the game a la Thornton.
On the rush, or back checking, he has a long slower-looking stride not all that different than I remember Sundin having. I would not call his skating a strength here, but at most I'd say it's mild issue. He's certainly not terrible.
