Prospect Info: 2015 Annual Prospect Poll #9

Last Poll: Larsson won, wasn't close. I think this one will be closer.

Each poll will be open for 48 hours. If it's not close after 24 hours, I'll call it. If it is, it'll go the full 48. In the event of a tie after 48 hours, a 24-hour runoff will be held. The winner will get the open spot; the loser will go back into the pool, not get the next-lowest rank. The poll will go up to #25. Players are in the poll on the basis of HF's prospect criteria. Essentially, skaters with less than 65 games before the season of their 24th birthday, or goalies with less than 45 games before the season of their 24th birthday, are considered prospects. There are some nuances with respect to older-signed players, which I believe only applies to Matt Bailey this year.

Vote on players using whatever criteria you like. This isn't the readiness poll or the talent poll or the most-likely-to-be-best poll, it's just a survey of who we as Duck fans like.

Flipped a coin between Nattinen and Pettersson, ended up with Nattinen.

Voted Wagner but it's because I'm an idiot and didn't see Friberg listed.

I'll ask this again here, what do you guys think would happen if Friberg (or Noeson/Ritchie) go into camp and notably outplay someone who is pencilled in and look like they could help the team?
- Carry 14 forwards
- Try to sneak someone through waivers/trade
- Go with your planned group of forwards anyway
?

I'd guess nothing. A coup like the one despres pulled on Wiz is pretty unusual. The coach has to be willing to sit a veteran, and I don't see a coach doing that right out of camp unless something goes wrong.

In other words, a veteran could lose his spot by playing well below expectations, so long as it looks like a rookie could actually play that role by playing well above his expectations.

The best players should play, no matter what. If a prospect is good enough to force himself into the lineup, then he should be there.

If something like this were to happen, I don't see us looking to trade anybody, because most of our forwards (the ones we would trade anyway) are simply not worth much by themselves in a trade. Also we have Stewart and Horcoff on 1-year deals, so there could always be a roster spot available next year. The players we don't need could always be unloaded at the TDL though.

"Sneaking" someone through waivers is an incredibly risky move, I don't see Bob attempting anything like that. A guy like Wagner, for example, would certainly get claimed from waivers.

It doesn't have to be someone established like Wiz who gets bumped though, I'm more thinking along the lines of Friberg looking better than Sekac or Wagner and earning a job in our bottom six, which is very possible IMO.

I really don't think they'd risk losing anyone through waivers unless the performance in camp was extraordinary. As in, literally amazing, not the look at my picture of spinach salad with yummy dressing amazing.

I've seen this argument a few times. Friberg over Wagner or Sekac.

Friberg, Noeson, Ritchie all can go to San Diego without waivers. Sekac and Wagner can not. I don't see either guy coming to camp and laying an egg and they both have more versatility than the other guys.

Sekac can play on any line including the top. Friberg and Noeson can not at this point. Ritchie may be able to late in his career, but Bob has said he will not rush him.

Wagner can play center and wing, combine him with Horcoff and you have a lefty and righty that can win draws and play wing. That gives BB a lot of in game options.

You'll have to point out where you have seen this argument, because that's not what I was saying. I'm not trying to advocate for Friberg over Sekac/Wagner, I'm asking how people think it would be handled if a non roster forward comes into camp and plays like a roster forward who could help this team.

I also think your pretty generous in your assessment of Sekac. You say he can play on any line including the top, when exactly has he proven that? Sekac is a wild card at this point, we still have no idea what to expect from him.
