Saw this on a few other boards so I figured we should do one.
Give every player a grade (A+ to F)
Yes, a few players haven't played many games, but some people like to grade them even though they've only had a handful of games under their belt

A+ = Amazing season, couldn't have done much better
A = Great season, played pretty much to full potential
A- = Great season, could have done a tiny bit better but still had a great season.
B+ = Very good season, was one of the better players on the team
B = Good season, could have done some things better but overall had a good season.
B- = Quite good season, made some mistakes
C+ = Okay season, pretty lacklustre
C = Average season, should have performed better
C- = Below average season, quite disappointing season
D+ = Pretty bad season, did not play well
D = Bad season, did not meet his expectations
D- = Horrible season, played really bad and was invisible for many games
F = Atrociously bad season, just stunk it up.
I = Incomplete season, cut short by injury, call up / send downs, or too little games to evaluate.

Not quite sure how I'd evaluate management in the middle of a season.

I just quickly scanned through this there's bound to be a wtf moment here or there.

HC Willie Desjardins- D-, very poor team discipline and structure, as well as terrible ice time distribution and zone starts. Countless questionable lineup decisions. Team collapsed half way through the year.
PR Trevor Linden- A+ puppet, he did everything that a PR shill would do.
AGM Jim Weisbrod- A+, you really have to admire how a person so terrible at their job continues to find work in any sports league, and at such a high position.

I don't really know how to grade management based on one year, so they all get C's.

Forwards:
LW Daniel Sedin: A-, would've been an A...but clearly fell off and/or stopped caring late in season.
C Henrik Sedin: A-, same as Twin.
RW Jannik Hansen: A-, got a rather superb opportunity to play with the Twins...and ran with it for the most part.
C Bo Horvat: B, first half was honestly pretty bad, but the way he turned things around in the back stretch continues to give hope for what he can grow into in the future.
LW Sven Baertschi: B+, started off shaky and looking like a very fringe player, but really seemed to "find" his game as the season wore on and showed a ton of promise.
RW Jake Virtanen: INCOMPLETE. just didn't play enough, consistently enough to say much. hard to have expectations for a teenager playing single digit minutes. made hits, played to the role he was in...but i don't think it's really something i'd grade him on.
C Brandon Sutter: INCOMPLETE+. while healthy, he looked to be a solid B+...but such a tiny sample of actually healthy play, really just have to defer grading 'till next season.
LW Chris Higgins: F, i mean, he got booted down to the minors for a reason.
RW Alex Burrows: D-, really pains me to say it, but Burr was bad this year. he's lost a step and really looks to be teetering on the brink of that cliff Higgy fell off this season. not there yet, but fast approaching.
C Linden Vey: Gold Star for Effort, courtesy of WillieD.
C Jared McCann: A, tailed off hard late in the season as the grind clearly got to him. but this is a guy who was definitely not supposed to make the NHL club this year. massively outperformed expectations just to make the club...and didn't look terrible even as he clearly got worn down by the later stages.
RW Emerson Etem: C, meets expectations, better than Jensen in that he was a viable NHL player.
C Markus Granlund: INCOMPLETE. not enough time to really say much, but that trade still irks me a lot.
C Brendan Gaunce: C, for his work with the NHL club at least. didn't show much of anything, but some better work with the Comets from the sounds of it.
RW Radim Vrbata: F, i'm honestly not sure a season long pout session actually fulfills his contractual obligations for the year.
LW Brandon Prust: A+, for being an amusing twitter doofus in an otherwise fairly bland season.
RW Derek Dorsett: C-, took a step back from the level he played at last year. injuries maybe a part of that, but an injured tone-setter isn't a very good tone-setter.

Defensemen:
D Alex Edler: B+, solid but not outstanding work while healthy as a top-pairing defenceman as expected.
D Dan Hamhuis: B, looked uncharacteristically shaky at times having to lug a bunch of different pylons around with him. but still put it all on the line, and looked a lot better in that brief stretch post-face shattering, but pre collapse and team folding on the season.
D Chris Tanev: A, took another step moving away from just playing like a Top-Pairing guy with Edler...but with a rookie as well. Disappointing that no real offensive ability materialized even with an expanded role and some PP opportunity...but a very good season on the whole regardless of that.
D Ben Hutton: A++, highest marks. really can't say enough about what this kid did in coming in out of nowhere to become a key cog on an NHL blueline. and battling through the ups and downs of the season as well.
D Luca Sbisa: C+, improved from last season. not leaps and bounds, but something.
D Matt Bartkowski: C, skated miles, did little. placed in roles well over his head too much...but for a million dollar defender, he wasn't horrendous. though actually watching him was appalling.
D Yannick Weber: F, played himself straight out of the NHL.
D Nikita Tryamkin: INCOMPLETE. promising signs, but coming in for a handful of games late in the year when the season is effectively done is hardly enough to truly grade.
D Alex Biega: A+, came in as an organizational depth spare part...worked his way into an NHL regular role. what else can you ask for from a guy like that?
D Andrey Pedan: C+, seemingly good steps with Utica...though not a great portfolio of NHL work this year.

Goalies:
G Jacob Markstrom: B+, showed himself to be an NHL netminder. didn't set the world on fire, but taking a big step toward solid NHL play is a great progression for him.
G Ryan Miller: B, did his job most nights. managed to not flip out too many times at how horrendously bad the defensive play around him was, especially late in the season when most of the other Vets seemed to pack it in for the year.

Management:
GM Jim Benning: B, think he's done well enough with the most important aspects of building a future for this team. added some pieces that should have made the team better. obviously some foibles with trade deadline that didn't go great.
HC Willie Desjardins: ABCD, because all grades are equally real good.
PR Trevor Linden: depends what letter he's told to promote. that one, whichever it is.
AGM John Weisbrod: A+, for somehow managing to be employed as an AGM of an NHL Franchise despite being clearly incompetent and unqualified for the role. impressive really.

Not sure how the two goalies don't get A's, given a defense that included Sbisa, Weber, Barts, with only Hutton, Biega and Hammer sometime available to babysit.

Also I think Cracknell deserves a grade - he played a lot more games than some others. Given his cap hit and off-ice contributions, I would give him at least B+.

Bachman had only one game, so I would give him an "incomplete" at the NHL level, and somewhere in the B range at the AHL level.

Too many easy markers. :)
When a team is as bad as the Canucks most of them deserve C's to F's.
The only guys I'd have above C based on expectations are:
Daniel: B+
Henrik: B-
Hansen: A-
Hutton: A-
Baertschi: B-
Tanev: B+
Edler: B
Markstom: B
Miller: B

The rest need to attend summer school!

Hmm, a lot of really high marks posted here for such a terrible team.

Relative to salary and expectations :

Forwards
Daniel Sedin B+ - not the season he had previously but easily our best forward.
Henrik Sedin B - struggled with injury in 2nd half.
Jannik Hansen A - numbers were Sedin influenced but had a terrific year.
Brandon Sutter B-/I - was adequate when healthy.
Bo Horvat B - had good offensive 2nd half, a bit concerned about the regression in his defensive/all-around game.
Radim Vrbata F - just a terrible, terrible season at both ends of the rink.
Sven Baertschi B - F for his first half, A for his 2nd half.
Alex Burrows C - bad year offensively, still did a ton of heavy defensive lifting playing with kids.
Jared McCann C - A for October, then looked completely out of place the rest of the way.
Jake Virtanen C - had a brief blip in February but mostly looked like he should still have been in junior.
Derek Dorsett D - bad player at both ends of the rink
Brandon Prust F - awful player at both ends of the rink
Chris Higgins F - skating completely fell apart after early injury. Looks done.
Linden Vey D - had one good 10-game spurt but was otherwise the same useless, insipid AHL player.
Adam Cracknell B - did a good job and was our best 4th liner until being pointlessly lost on waivers.
Emerson Etem C+ - looked mostly useless for 30 games, then had a really strong finish over his last 5-8 games.
Markus Granlund D - looked like crap in Calgary, looked like crap here.
Brendan Gaunce B - no production but looked good and drove possession.

Defense
Alex Edler B+ - not as good as last year and got hurt, but still very effective
Chris Tanev A- - only criticism is that he got hurt again
Dan Hamhuis B - was solid despite generally terrible partners
Ben Hutton A+ - out of nowhere to be in our top-4 by the end of the year. Biggest positive of the season
Luca Sbisa D - marginally improved but still a crap, overpaid waste of space.
Matt Bartkowski D - overplayed fringe player. Not effective.
Yannick Weber F - ghastly season has surely ended his NHL career.
Alex Biega A - another Mike Weaver in the making. Effective depth defender, nice story.
Nikita Tryamkin A - came in and exceeded expectations. Looks like a regular for next season.
Andrey Pedan D - looks lost at this level. Can't skate, can't think.

Goalies
Ryan Miller C+ - had a better year but still overpaid and irrelevant.
Jacob Markstrom A- - outplayed Miller, should be the starter next year.

Management
Jim Benning F - one of the biggest morons ever to be in this position in the NHL.
Willie Desjardins D - didn't seem to screw up any young players. Otherwise a terrible coach.
Trevor Linden F - unqualified figurehead has no idea what he's doing.
John Weisbrod F - embarrassing that this guy is employed by us.

I'm a tough marker.
But when you finish third worst in the entire NHL and are the worst team from Xmas on, it's hard to give good grades to more than just a handful of players.
Reading the grades in some of these lists you'd think we were one of the top teams in the NHL this year. It was more than just the fringe NHL'ers that performed poorly on the team this year. Even with above average goaltending this team was awful.

I find Horvat to be the most difficult to grade. Finished with 40 points, did struggle defensively but also took a crazy high amount of defensive zone faceoffs which puts that into context. Hard to know really what his ceiling is also.

Overall I guess if I'm just looking in terms of salary, 3rd on the team in points while being deployed like Malhotra and making 900K would have to be an A+? But can't help but feel like he can do better defensively, at ES and on the PK.

Yeah, I had problems with him too.

Disappointing first half offensively (2-8-10, -17 in his first 39 games), excellent 2nd half offensively (14-16-30, -13 in his last 43 games) but struggled defensively all year and his battle/compete level was disappointing. And he struggled badly on the PK.

I expected him to score 35-40 points while being better defensively than he was ... but I didn't expect him to be able to score at a first-line rate over a half-season the way he did. Very weird year.

I'll do it both ways...

First grade: absolute performance.
Second grade : relative to expectations. Where a C was what you expected.

Forwards
Daniel Sedin B+, B : Good solid season. More goals than I expected.
Henrik Sedin B, C- : Injuries hit him hard, good enough when playing, but hoped for more
Jannik Hansen B+, A : Had solid year.. blew expectations out of the water!
Brandon Sutter I, B : Incomplete.. but exceeded the negative expectations he had coming in.
Bo Horvat C+, C- : Ultra disappointing 1st half (D, D), outstanding finish(A-, B). Hoped he would continue from where he left off vs Cgy.
Radim Vrbata D, F : dat effort level
Sven Baertschi B-, C+ : going relative to expectations coming in. Relative to the expectations after his first 10 games his finish was a relative A.
Alex Burrows C, C- : He had good utility year. The O is gone. :(
Jared McCann C-, C : Couldn't handle the puck to save his life, but mixed in some exciting flashes
Jake Virtanen C, C- : Showed plenty of evidence he's NHL caliber.. but expected more O obviously.
Derek Dorsett C, C- : started out pretty decent, but too many invisible games after Nov.
Brandon Prust D, C- : starting out showing a surprisingly high level of vision and passing ability.. but was useless after injury.
Chris Higgins D, D : Perhaps one of the more drastic drops in performance we've seen
Linden Vey C-, C- : Hoped to see him take a step out of camp.. didn't... But he showed that step once called up.
Adam Cracknell C, B+ : Average player. But killed expectations by making the team.
Emerson Etem C+, ? : Had no idea what to expect with him. But very happy with his finish.. very happy.
Markus Granlund C-, ? : No expectation like Etem.. Was happy with his good games. Not enough of them. Hope to see more of the good ones next yr.
Brendan Gaunce C, B- : Loved that he looked like an NHL caliber player. Promising.

Defense
Alex Edler B+, C : Injury was disappointing.
Chris Tanev B, C : only criticism is he's one way
Dan Hamhuis C, D- : SUCH a brutal season .. till he returned from injury. managed pull it up to a C.
Ben Hutton B-, A- : Fantastic development!
Luca Sbisa C, C : A LOT of people should be giving him A's and B's if they are honest and going relative to their expectations - the way some were talking about his inability to actually improve from last season.
Matt Bartkowski C-, C- : Watching him skate and rush the puck in preseason - so much unfounded potential.
Yannick Weber D+, D- : Brutal follow up season to an outstanding finish in 2015.
Alex Biega C-, B+ : Blew expecattions outta the water.. but utterly useless in the Ozone, and vs any forward with size or speed down low.
Nikita Tryamkin B-, B- : We have a PLAYER! Waay smarter than I expected. Now conditioning.
Andrey Pedan I, I : promising first taste on D. Obviously incomplete considering we had to use him at forward for a few of his mere 13 games.

Goalies
Ryan Miller B, A : Was solid, and played more consistent than last yr despite the more atrocious D... Expected MUCH worse.
Jacob Markstrom B-, B+ : Had some expected consistency issues, but I wasn't expecting him to be this good in yr 1 of NHL duty..

Pretty close to what I have as well. I'm a little tougher on Horvat given his first half of the season but overall I'm happy with his progress. I'd have him as a C to C+.

Some combination of actual play and expectations:

Forwards:
LW Daniel Sedin - A- - Basically the only player who consistently generated offense for the team throughout the entire season.
C Henrik Sedin - B+ - Injuries clearly held him back. Still a solid year overall.
RW Jannik Hansen - A - Way better than expected and a great linemate for the Sedins.
C Bo Horvat - B - Was (mis)used as a defensive center for most of the year and still ended up with 40 points. Like a few other players, his second half was much better than his first half. Still think he had an encouraging season overall because of the role he was forced to play in.
LW Sven Baertschi - B- - Obviously looked a hell of a lot better in the second half than the first. Overall, his production isn't quite what you'd want for someone playing top-6 minutes but hopefully the second half of the season is closer to his true talent.
RW Jake Virtanen - C - Clearly didn't belong at this level at the start of the season, but looked better after the WJCs. Hard player for me to mark. Probably should have been in junior this season.
C Brandon Sutter - C+/I - Looked decent in the games he played, but wasn't utilized the way he probably should be. Would rather see him taking heavy defensive minutes away from Horvat than lining up on the wing with the Sedins.
LW Chris Higgins - F - As one of Higgins's bigger fans here, this was a really disappointing season. Probably the end of his NHL career.
RW Alex Burrows - C - Offense clearly took a hit playing bottom-6 minutes, but he's still a quality defensive player.
C Linden Vey - D - Didn't expect much, but he was actually worse than expected. Ridiculous that he got as much ice-time as he did.
C Jared McCann - C - Fantastic start to the season but probably should have been sent back before the 39 game mark (or whatever it is).
RW Emerson Etem - C - More or less what I expected he'd do. Encouraging end to the season but too small of a sample to boost his mark much.
C Markus Granlund - D/I - Replacement level player who needs to make strides in the offseason to justify making the opening day roster.
C Brendan Gaunce - C - Some bad luck offensively really tanked his numbers, but IMO he looks good enough to play in a bottom-6 role.
RW Radim Vrbata - D - Low shooting percentage and being moved from the Sedin line hurt his numbers. Don't think he was as bad as others seem to think, but clearly not the player the team needed him to be.
LW Brandon Prust - F - Useless AHL trash and bad in the locker room.
RW Derek Dorsett - D- - Should be making close to league minimum. Not sure he's good enough to be an everyday player anymore.

Defensemen:
D Alex Edler - B+ - Top-pairing defenseman playing like a top-pairing defenseman. Pretty much exactly as expected.
D Dan Hamhuis - B- - Not the same player he once was, but it doesn't help that he's been asked to carry some god awful partners.
D Chris Tanev - A- - Same old dependable Chris Tanev.
D Ben Hutton - A - Did anyone expect him to make the team, let alone play at the level he did? Looks like he's ready to be a top-4 guy now. Clearly one of the biggest bright spots this season.
D Luca Sbisa - D - Maybe a little better than last season but still not even close to worth what he's making. Should not be an everyday player.
D Matt Bartkowski - D- - Not an NHL player. Might actually be worse than Sbisa. Lower grade than Sbisa because I actually had some hopes he could be a good bottom-pairing guy.
D Yannick Weber - F - Hoped he could be a passable partner for Hamhuis but holy crap was he bad this year.
D Nikita Tryamkin - I - Encouraging stint but too small of a sample for me. Certainly played his way into the mix for a spot next year though.
D Alex Biega - C+ - Relative to expectations, he was great. However, I think he gets a little over-hyped because of the lack of expectations and how bad his competition was. Good enough to be a #6/7 guy though.
D Andrey Pedan - I - Hopefully his short stint at the end of the season was a one-off. Looked terrible.

Goalies:
G Jacob Markstrom - B+ - Good season for him. Hopefully he gets more starts next year.
G Ryan Miller - B+ - Exceeded my expectations as I figured he'd drop off this year. As much as I hated the signing, I have to admit that he played well.

Management:
GM Jim Benning - F - Horrid. Worst GM in the league. Not much else to say.
HC Willie Desjardins - D - It's kind of hard for me to mark Willie because there are two aspects to his job which I'd grade very differently. The off-ice preparation and whatnot seems good. I like the system that he uses and he seems to get a lot out of his players. However, his in-game management is atrocious and he'd get taken to the cleaners by any other coach in the league in the playoffs. It's like his brain completely shuts off once the game starts. He's probably lost the room with his catering to fringe NHL players/Medicine Hat alumni like Vey and Dorsett. Overall, meh?
PR Trevor Linden - F? - Not entirely sure what his job is but I'm sure he's bad at it. Completely destroying his reputation here in Vancouver.
AGM Jim Weisbrod - F - I almost wonder if he's pulling some Frank Underwood **** by trying to make Benning look bad and taking his job (only half serious). Terrible NBA executive and an even worse NHL executive.
