It's nothing new. One thing Rogers has done since taking over the NHL rights is to make the national games on Saturday more accessible.

Last year, you were able to watch the habs nationally on Saturdays, usually on city. I think they use the term "hockey night in Canada" for their entire spectrum of channels, so it does not necessarily make them cbc games.

I got the center ice pack and then realized 80% of habs games were on city tv out west. Will this season be the same? I'm on shaw in bc fyi

80% sounds high. The only national games I remember on city were on Saturday nights.

Look into the french centre ice package. That should cover you for all habs games. It costs 60 bucks for the season. It also has some sens games if you are interested.

Basically, it will allow you to watch all the national habs games in English, and the regional ones in french.

Hmm, Im out west and I'm wondering if there's an option to get City TV Montreal in Telus's time shift channels. Or will those be blacked out anyway?

This is like last year all over again,..I caved and bought Center Ice.

Time shift will do you no good if its a regional telecast.

Like I said above, talk to telus about the french centre ice package. It will give you access to all the french games, except on Saturdays, which will always be available nationally in English anyways.

It should cost about 60 bucks. So there's no need to pay for the full centre ice package, and if for whatever reason, they don't supply the french package, then you can bargain with them in order to receive a hefty discount on the full CI package (at least a couple of us went this way).

Last season I watched Habs games on Snet and cie. What is better, RDS/TVA, or Sportsnet/City/CBC?

That's an interesting option. I heard nothing about the french CI option, but I'll ask. I have no particular loyalties to telus, so I'll contact Shaw as well.

EDIT: did anyone out west actually get the French CI package from Telus or Shaw? A quick google search told me that that option was only available through Bell Satellite or over Game Center.

I do not have cable at the moment, I was wondering if Rogers Game Center Live would allow me to watch all the Montreal Canadiens games? I live in Sudbury Ontario by the way.

I'm pretty sure that Rogers and bell have the french package. Out west, that leaves bell as your best bet. It was something that was introduced pretty much right when the regular season began.

I suspect telus should also have it offered before this season begins. I happened to get the full centre ice package for 20 bucks last year because telus had not yet picked up the french centre ice option.

Haha wow how'd you pull that off? I'll be ready to express my outrage if the french option isn't offered with telus this year. I have a pretty good cable/internet package with them so switching to shaw isnt worth it, and apparently bell satellite isn't offered where I live in Calgary...perhaps because I'm in a condo building?

It gets better. I remember a guy last year who basically got centre ice for free from telus via credits/rebates etc.. when he made a similar complaint.

If you have consistently been in good financial standing with telus, the trick is to get your way through to the retention department (I can't quite remember exactly what they call it). They should bend for customers who are maintenance free to collect from.

Be prepared. Last year, I cited a link which proved that the french centre ice package exists, and I was slamming them for not providing it.

Hopefully, none of that will be necessary this year, as I would happily pay 60 bucks for the french package.

As for your bell situation, I'm no expert on which jurisdictions they are allowed to operate in, but I suspect that this is more likely to be some sort of "condo rule", as you suggested. Don't quote me on that, though.

21 Sat. games (City, CBC, and SN)
6 Sun. games all on SN
9/10 Wed. games all on SN
3 Thursday games (1 game on SN360, 1 game on SN1, and 1 on SN)
1 Friday game on SN

I work for Bell FWIW just call and say you're going to cancel we automatically transfer people to retention if that happens. Some people get up to 50 $$ a month off depending on what they have.

I live in Vancouver but my girlfriend works for Rogers so I had the hookup for all the Habs games all year. Apparently this year will be the same. :)

But in a horrible scenerio where I didn't have her in my life, I'd have cable and the RDS pack.
