I don't think McDavid should make it, he was so bad this year. Totally invisible in the 3rd periods when they needed goals

McDavid wilted under the pressure and did nothing in the final 10 minutes of today's game. He wilted under the pressure of being a 16 year old and not being expected to do anything. Imagine next year with the additional pressure of having to be a top scorer? He'll wilt beyond belief and probably score a few times on his own net. McDavid shouldn't make it next year.

What merit would make you automatically put his name for next year? I think you're even more laughable; he was forgettable this year, even moreso than other players on this forgettable Canadian team.

"He has potential!", "A generational talent!"

Didn't show any of that; unless he does, why invite him? Waste of a spot.

Potential is useless unless you actually utilize it.

You realize he had 4 points in 6 games as a 16 year old, right? When Crosby was 16 he scored 5 points in 6 games. :help:

Canada is having a pretty forgettable WJC as a unit so its silly to single out McDavid. Its clear you need to be more prepared out of camp. Canada has star power but a lack of familiarity and cohesiveness, it was evident right out of the gate.

Pretty sure McDavid was on the bench for the last 10 minutes of the 3rd, minus the part where Canada was down 4-1 with 1 minute left when Sutter finally decided to throw him out there. You're going to fault a guy for not being on the ice?

Reinhart is highly unlikely; maybe 25% chance.

Also there's usually like 5 players that make the NHL at 18 so there's a decent chance.Dal Colle and/or Bennett are also unavailable.

I think Jake Virtanen has a pretty good shot though.

This is why we can't have nice things. 16 year old with physical maturity needed is being dogged for this, ****ing ridiculous. I agree with those who say he is not the next Crosby, Crosby makes faster decisions and has a low center of gravity that can not be beat, but that does not mean I will ready this crap as if McDavid is responsible with so little ice time to show for it.

I also have a question about Sam Reinhart: I had expectations for him as someone who was already 18. I felt he was pretty flat for most of the tourney. He has talent and does the little things well, which is why he will be a player in the NHL, but there was nothing that made me think he is on the same level as MacKinnon or Nugent-Hopkins even. Is it just me?

No change Ekblad will be there imo. Just amazing poise and calmness for 17 year old. Playing in juniors wouldn't really serve any purpose.

McDavid will be on the team next year barring injury. No discussion. His play was mediocre this year, sure, but I'm sure hockey Canada will gladly bring him back after 11 months of dominating the OHL.

I could maybe see him stay depending on who drafts him. Edmonton will keep him up and live or die by him (and I hope for that reason they don't get their hands on him), but if Buffalo is feeling like overloading their defense with big skill players (imagine Ekblad, Ristolainen and Zadorov on a unit) then they could be more patient if they feel he could fine tune his game.

I think Drouin might be back for a 3rd go around.

Steve Yzerman has made it clear that young guys have to earn their spots, and while he has amazing talent, there are parts of his game that simply arent NHL ready. I have held from day 1 he can do things with a puck that I have never seen from anyone since Crosby. But he has major holes especially in his positioning

Canada needs to remove the blueprint we have been using for years. 2 scoring lines, 1 checking line and a checking line isn't working. When you have as deep a pool of prospects as we do, you should have 4 scoring lines. Just make sure some of those guys have two way games. I'd rather have guys like Lazar and Horvat in those two way roles than wasting space on fourth line guys with zero skill. Gauthier offered nothing but face off ability this tournament. He was an absolute waste of roster space. Leier and Rychel did nothing either. I expected much more from Laughton, but he was marginal. Bring in more talent and lets out score, out skate, out possess the puck and win through pushing the pace instead of defending.

Also, again, agree with all of this.

Another name that will be in the mix will be ho-sang, hopefully the attitude issues will be worked out. High end skill, could see him being a 13th forward pp specialist, although that might not sit well with him ahah:laugh:

I'd like to see Canada bring 40~ players and have a full camp. No more free spots just given out to players who were drafted high. Lazar, Petan, and Morrissey were all unimpressive in my eyes.

Lazar and Petan looked great. Morrissey didn't play much after Griffin returned but was OK. If all three of these guys are available they will be locks.

I'm kind of hoping that Gauthier will be one of those rare guys that doesn't make the team the second year. Other than face offs, he brought absolutely nothing to the team. I know many people here are Leafs fans and will piss and moan about anyone dogging their prospect. My criticism is independent of team affiliation. I also didn't like Leier at all and Rychel is in the same boat. Canada needs to stop bringing designated checkers. The best defense is a good offense. Lets push the pace and play our game. We need to force our opponents to counter us rather than us coming into the tournament with a defensive strategy in mind.

Lol @ people claiming McDavid will be left off next year's team.

He played fine for his age this tournament, next year he will be bigger and better, there's no way he's left off unless he's injured.

Maybe just blame TSN! They always overhype certain players which leads fans to unreasonable expectations of that player or players. It has been said more than a few times that this is a tournament for 19 year olds (this year would have been players born in 94). Why did everybody all think that McDavid would be this years saviour as a 16 year old.

Id say these guys are more than likely gonna be on the team next year, the offense is so clear, but the defense and goaltending should be.

Lazar I agree with. Petan.....he scored big goals for the team, I will give him that much. However, I will say that when it came to controlling the puck he had serious issues whenever he was being challenged in any way. He was either being careless or panicked and made bad passes.

I really hope the players in bold earn their way on the team and are not on due to them being on this year....
