Germany headed into their Monday match-up with the Czech Republic with three lopsided losses to show for their 2014 World Junior Championship efforts to date. Added to that, they were entering the contest without their best player, Leon Draisaitl, who was suspended for one game.



Instead of folding up the tent and resigning themselves to another date with the relegation round, however, the Germans behind the shutout goaltending of Marvin Cupper defeated the Czechs, 3-0. The win vaulted Germany over the Czechs, although the Czechs still have a contest against a tough Slovakia squad.

Cupper, who plays for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL, stopped 40 shots en route to his shutout.… read more
