So 6th round pick Olofsson climbs all the way to 17 in our redraft 6 years later. @GOALOFSSON campaigned hard for him the last time we did this and that poster was right. I was wrong in thinking he would be as good as he was back then. Tremendous talent Olofsson is, too bad got injured last season, irregardless lots a great years ahead for him and i think will go MUCH higher when we do this next offseason. Anyways 18 is next, who ya taken?

Demko looking to be the second goalie taken so far this draft. Both him and Shesterkin with not many games between them but have shown potential

Demko going over Merzlikins doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Is there any reasoning behind it? Other than he plays for a bigger fanbase?

Demko - 37 games - .906 sv%
Merzlikins - 33 games - .923 sv%

Both had outstanding stints in this playoffs.

Compare the defence and coaching systems between the teams. And then factor in Demko's draft pedigree and recency bias based on his playoff performance.

Well I see the recency bias part, that's for sure! Demko was off radar until a 4 game stint in the playoffs.

And then factor in Demko's draft pedigree

Demko was drafted a round higher than Elvis but following that Elvis was one of the best goalies in Europe for about five years, while Demko was undistinguished at Utica. I'd say Elvis has the better pedigree.

Compare the defence and coaching systems

Per GSAA, Demko allowed 3.67 more goals than expected from the shots he was presented with, while Elvis allowed 12.10 fewer goals than expected. Perhaps there is some more team effect not fully accounted for there, but then Markstrom had comparable numbers to Elvis, while Korpisalo ended up about even. So no matter how you slice it Elvis was on another level from Demko.

This is Canucks bias.

I expect Demko will get a bit better over the next couple years, but he has to get a lot better to catch up with Merzlikins. His whole career to this point has been a step down and more than two years of development worth behind Merzlikins.
