I have a lot of faith that Leier will become the type of modern bottom six winger every successful team needs.

if a canadian wjc player is your 9th best prospect then you are in pretty damn good shape. Personally i have him as our 7th best prospect but that is just me.

We have come a long ways since brendan ranford and patrick maroon.

What if he was a WJC player on a team that hasn't won gold in 5 years?

I have a feeling that kid will disappoint at the next level. He doesn't use his body enough & I don't think he'll be a guy that gets by with pure skill. He puts up big numbers but so has every other player playing a big role in Portland over the years.

I would have still rolled the dice with him & many other players for that matter over Goulbourne but by no means do I think he's some hot shot prospect.

Went Alt. The Leier fandom here is strong though so he will most likely win.

I like Leier also just want to wait to see how he transitions into the pros.

Hear, hear. He looked like a passenger. He played better in the Subway Super Series, though, for what it's worth. Well, the first game, at least.

I agree, but tend to think that he's the kind of depth forward that teams like Chicago and Boston regularly employee as a cost saying mechanism. Leier will likely be that as well, though with less offense and a little better D.
