Forget all the other prospects for this poll.

We have a poll about who we want to see the team draft with the second overall pick, though that poll was conducted with the uncertainty of whether we would pick first or second.

Between Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett, who do you think is a better fit for Buffalo at Number 2 if both are there?

Again... I've intentionally left Ekblad and Draisaitl off the list. Just curious about the SAMs. I want to see where the guys who voted for these two (and any other votes) take their vote when it's just these two. "Neither" is not a poll option for obvious reasons. I can't find a poll that quantifies the preference out of just these two players after knowing we pick behind Florida - if I'm wrong, apologies in advance and please delete.

I love me some Bennett, and I think I voted for him, but Reinhart as been doing it for 3 years. 62, 85, 105pnts was below ppg once and it was his rookie season 62 pnts in 67 games. He plays a 2 way game. An elite level play maker. At this point Im starting to drift back towards Reinhart. Still love me some Bennett, also love me some Reinhart.

I get the sense that this sentiment (back and forth, flip flopping) is commonplace.

I'd love to see some make an adamant case for one that they prefer. With some conviction, might I add!

On one hand I want the faster Bennett. We're a slow team his speed will help open the ice.

On the other hand we suck at passing and Reinhart would add some great passing skills.

But I like gritty players, especially ones that fit into the top 6. Bennett is like if sand paper and silk got drunk and hooked up without protection.

But you dont need to be gritty to be a tough, hardass that gets where he needs to be. Reinhart is more than willing to be in the dirty areas to make a play.

Dude, we're getting a Sam. Do I need to pick one? Right now I'm just gonna be happy seeing one of them holding a 14 jersey.

It's a very tough call.

I've been a Reinhart supporter all year, but I've recently entertained the idea of Bennett. It's grown on me. His skating, in particular.

Currently, I'm leaning Bennett. 3 weeks ago I was leaning Reinhart. I'm glad Murray is the one who will choose.

I've been going with Reinhart for a long time now but it's getting more and more that I don't care.

I've been on the Reinhart train all year but at this point I won't get mad if we draft either or Draisaitl.

They're all so close and add something to the system which we could use.

I trust TM's judgement.

Reinhart with ease for me.

Bennett is a jack of all trades, master of none. Reinhart has some special qualities, and when you are drafting this high, you need to get someone with special qualities.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

Bennett has many special qualities. His blend of skating, skill and speed is remarkable and he's great on all 3 zones.

As for your last comment, it makes no sense, at all. When drafting high. You take the player you think is the best player, wether he's a specialist or not shouldn't matter at all.

Reinhart, but I think Bennett would grow on me over time if we drafted him.

It really is a Taylor vs Tyler debate at this point, sure you can argue for days over whose better, but they've both shown to be effective pros in their own right. (Not comparing their playing styles to these two)

I can't decide if I'd prefer a Ron Francis or a Doug Gilmour. Both have their positives and negatives and no one will know for sure until 5yrs down the line as to which pick was better. I will say that the age difference has me leaning towards Bennett.

i'm still a flip-flopper. gonna be just fine with either. cop out.

If Reinhart goes #1, I'll be very happy if to draft Bennett. I love Bennett's upside. I love his tenacity. I love that he has a high ceiling.

But if Florida takes Ekblad, and we take Bennett over Reinhart, I will feel that we made a mistake until proven otherwise.

This has been said a hundred times by others... but I agree that Bennett has a higher overall ceiling. If he can transition his style of play along with his skill to the NHL, he will be an impact player (I like the Doug Gilmour comparisons).

But I have a level of concern with Bennett transitioning and reaching his ceiling, that I simply don't have at all with Reinhart.

Neither one is the Mackinnon/MacDavid/Eichel franchise altering talent. But it is still imperative that the Sabres nail this pick and get a core piece of the foundation in place.

Reinhart is a sure thing, in terms of being a core foundational piece IMO.

The fact that I am absolutely confident in how terrible we will be next year, makes it even easier to take the safest top tier forward, who exhibits all the qualities you want in a franchise player.

I like Bennett, my case is the following:
1. His speed is very necessary on this team especially..we don't have many fast skaters besides maybe Ennis and 1 or 2 others, but I love his speed with and without the puck
2. He's extremely gritty, that's how the NHL is these days.
3. When your team is competitive, THIS is the type of guy you want in the playoffs. The skilled factor, and also the toughness/grit/allout style factor. He reminds me so much of mike richards..or maybe even Toews.
4. The culture we're creating in buffalo is one of what this guy brings...he'll fit right into Nolan's system which helps the learning curve
5. 2 way game - that's tough to find. A lot of his defensive game is his skating ability to get back and also his grit to get the puck from whoever has it on the other team
6. Leadership

I like either Sam's...but I just prefer Bennett right now. I'm so on the fence though lol Somedays I'm for Reinhart and some days for Bennett, but I'm leaning Bennett and those are just some of the reasons as to why

I prefer the smarter player that is certain to be good defensively. This is especially what Buffalo lacks up front. That means Reinhart. Bennett has the potential to be a better player, but also the potential to be in the box or injured a lot.

Jame said exactly what I was going to point out - with Eichel having about an 80% chance of getting drafted by the Sabres in 2015, Reinhart makes more sense for building the roster. If Bennett does end up being a better player, I still wouldn't regret taking Reinhart if he hits his potential because he's the type of player Buffalo needs...imo.

With how murky our future lineup looks, I like the idea of taking Bennett who could fit in all around a lineup. The "Jack of all trades" thing is a positive thing for me.

I'm on board with this logic, too.
