Watching the Ducks last night got me to thinking how they rebuilt thier roster since winning the Cup in '07 with how deep they are now on thier wings.

Really something the Pens could've learned from. Pronger, Kunitz, Ryan, Lupul among others traded. Great draft picks and the team is loaded with young talent right now. Certainly giving Getzlaf and Perry thier best shots at another Cup in doing so.

Things are looking a little better for the Pens with higher end D, some goalie and a couple higher end forward prospects but they really should be moving on from even more of the vets and some of the core. And playing the youth it already has.

if we only had traded a certain two defense men last year instead of losing them for nothing we would be in so much better shape. imo

No question. This team was going no where with Dupuis out and Lee Stempniak or Gibbons on Sid's wing. Team had to move Malkin to wing and the bottom 6 was super weak. Management should've recognized that and traded some guys.

it looks like I've reached an impasse with the Dallas's fans. [the same as it was with trading gogo for neal right before it happened] so now I'm moving to the habs boards.

The more I think about it the more I'm starting to think Shero knew he was managing for his job, so he had to go "all-in" again and get a deep run. It feels like McPhee moving FF to get immediate help in Erat.

They won't do the Scuderi for Hemsky deal?

What kind of deal are you thinking with the Habs?

they may do that deal.....it doesn't help us with the cap hit. imo
as for the habs ...I don't have a clue :) they just have a player I would love to have on the pen's and the need for a wing for so long is pushing me over the line. ....

The Pens just need to move Martin asap so they can get the max benefit from prorated cap space and give Harrington experience for the playoffs.

Trading Scuds for Hemsky is a win, imo, even with us taking on more cap space. I'm also fine with trading Martin so he would need to be moved to make room for Hemsky.

I assume you mean Patches. Everyone would love to have that guy. Unless we give up Maatta, forget about it. Otherwise, Gallagher may be possible but we would need to overpay. Probably something like for Harrington + Spaling + 2nd.

I'd be looking to move Scuds now that his value has risen above pure cap dump, as well as Dupuis since he is overpaid for what he brings to the table. Moving either contract now would likely be all we need to do in terms of pro rated cap.

I still don't think we would find a taker for Scuderi. Even though he only has an 8 team NTC, most of the teams on his list would probably be the only teams that could afford him. If his NTC blocks teams that aren't close to home (since the rumor was that he signed in the East to be closer to family), I'd guess the teams on his NTC are Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vanouver, Anaheim, San Jose, LA and Arizona. I would say that would leave basically Colorado, Dallas and NYI (I don't care what their HF fans say, their PK is atrocious) as teams that would be interested in him.

completely agreed

I'm bored so just throwing this out there...

What if we just traded Pouliot, Martin, and a 1st and went after a big time winger. Like JVR, Patches, Kane, Landeskog, etc? Or even two pieces back in return.

I don't want to trade Pouliot tbh. There aren't that many wingers that really make me want to include Pouliot or Kapanen for, I feel like they will be just as good very soon. I still think the Bennett, Harrington and a 1st deal for Kane makes some sense for both sides, with us moving Martin for cap space to make it work.

I am fully on board with a big time deal like that. I'd give that package for any of those guys in an instant.

For sure. I still think he took the wrong approach to doing that because he botched doing that in the off season and to give. Could he have saved himself by treating like a transition year, trading off UFA's for picks or prospects and giving young guys playing time (and firing Bylsma when it clearly wasn't working again), you know? Have a clear plan to address problems and move on.

Pouliot doesn't make much sense in Montreal (Subban) and Toronto (Reilly) but Colorado could work. Giving up Martin, a late first, and a top 10 pick prospect is a lot though.

I think we very well could ship Scuderi out, only question is how much we are willing to concede value wise in the transaction.

As to his NTC, we can speculate all we like, but none of us know for sure whether the list is comprised of 8 bottom feeders, or rather an east-west basis with a bottom feeder or two sprinkled in. Either scenario leaves us some trade possibilities IMO.

PS if that were his list, GMJR should be on the phone to Buffalo, like, yesterday.

I don't think Buffalo would be interested in him, they are extremely deep with D prospects as well and they already have their veteran in Gorges on the team. I'd say Dallas is probably our best bet right now, with the Islanders coming in 2nd. Maybe New Jersey would be interested as well, their PK is horrendous right now as well.

It's not just Anaheim though, it's LA and Chicago as well.

Toffoli and Pearson were draft additions that made immediate playoff impact. In fact, a lot of people point out that putting together "That seventies line" (Toffoli-Carter-Pearson) was what turned their playoffs around last year. Two kids put together with a vet essentially led them to winning another Cup. Let's not forget what getting Gaborik accomplished either.

Don't even get me started on the Blackhawks. They got stripped bare after their first Cup win when they lost Versteeg, Ladd, Buff, Brouwer a little later (among others) yet, with some shrewd trades and drafting, they were back to prominence again because they identified the PROPER core to keep and build around.

Shero thought part of the core was Dupuis and Orpik and Adams. Scuderi as well because you know, he should have never let him go.

Man, it's only when I write this stuff and really delve on it that I remind myself what a gong show the last regime was. What a waste.
