A surprise 'early' first poll for hockey was released today (earliest poll in 35 years). Not much for the committee to review given two of the conferences haven't played any league games.

It's so early, there are 12 teams outside the top 10 that received votes. Even MRU got a first place vote - that's a stretch. That one selection amounted to 10 of their 14 points.

I created a repository of Top 10s here - HOT 10 RR. It goes back to 1979/80.

Voting is based on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, with a 1st place vote worth 10 points. The CIS Men’s Ice Hockey Top Ten Committee is made up of media members from across Canada.

Dont you worry about accountability

The OUA and AUS don't start league play for a while yet.....
The CW boys started last week due to FISU scheduling and alberta loses to an unranked team ( 2013-14), and they are ranked número uno?
I could see if you had a preseason projected top 10....
What is the rush boys!?

I agree - starting the polls this week is 1-2 weeks earlier than needed. You can see that in the points and #1 selections. I would have preferred the AUS have at least 4 games (which puts the OUA at 6 and CW at 8 played). Trying to rank teams on 2-3 Exh. games is a bit of a stretch.

FYI...
Alberta IMO does not deserve to be #1.
The Bears have a little bit of a University Cup hangover going on.
Had UNB #1 and Alberta at 4

Fun fact (to be referenced in my weekend preview):

Last year, the Monkeys (in all games) went 45-4-1. So far this year, they are 5-4-0.

I had Calgary at #1. I can't believe Mount Royal got a #1. Sheesh.

The hockey top 10 voting starts when the first conference games starts, which is usually in Canada West. As has been mentioned, CanWest is starting even earlier this year because of FISU, so therefore the Top 10 starts earlier.

But because of that, we didn't have a lot to work with for the first week.

Agreed ! TOO EARLY FOR MEANINGFUL rankings!

HOWEVER,
STU Tommies last weekends exhibition results :
McGill 4-3 -OT
McGill 3-1
UQTR 3-2

This showing vs #8 and #3 ranked teams is a testament to Pat Powers et al qndna sign that the TOMMIES are on the rise.

I saw both games in Montreal.and was more than.impressed with this Tommies rendition...I did not.attend the UQTR game but the reports were favorable.

Is there anybody in Quebec ? Here in Trois-Rivieres, our daily newspaper is covering the CIS activities and nobody votes on this.

How can a top ten even be announced when some teams like Mcgill and Western have not even played a game yet.
