The emergence of New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson as an offensive presence after making the jump directly from junior hockey to the NHL has been a bit of a surprise. Tanner Pearson was expected to make an impact for the Los Angeles Kings after seeing regular ice time during the Stanley Cup playoffs, but few expected the eye-popping offensive numbers he has put up so far.

The two young players are off to fast starts and are the early front-runners in the Hockey’s Future Calder Trophy poll for the 2014-15 season, with the 20-year-old Devils’ defenseman narrowly edging the Kings’ left wing for the top spot.… read more

This is awesome, and although I always enjoy watching Devils games even when they are not contenders like now, Severson is just such a great story to follow.

Though he has has a couple of pretty harsh games on him these last two, amirite? At least so it seems from the highlights.

He was excellent in the Detroit game.
He led the team in shots

He led the team in shifts...

He was on for a couple of PP goals but they weren't his fault, one was the Larsson tip. What this kid is doing at his age is mind blowing.
