BTW I can happily say, at least we are not Philadelphia or Edmonton.

However! If Philadelphia fires their coach, should Minnesota look at him?

Going back to the Vanek situation, didn't Russo mention not too long ago that Wild management are already looking at him as a Parise/Suter type signing? They're planning to give him a big offer when he's a free agent but won't be looking to acquire him beforehand.

Ugh. Wouldn't want that...

Of course. Why would we give up assets up him if we have a good chance of signing him in the first place? And plus, we have his friends Ballard and Pominville already. ;)

Are most here still sour on the idea of signing Mueller to a cheap contract? Given the guy is a bit of a band-aid, if he can stay healthy for a decent amount of games he could really be a viable option at center. If there are few suitors for his services, you would have to think Fletch could get him for close to league minimum

Why the hell not?? The NHL is not a 2 scoring, 1 energy, 1 checking line league anymore. The more depth for scoring and 2-way players...the better you're going to be. Having 2 proven lines of NHL veterans and another of high profile prospects that will be more seasoned would be epic in the making. Tie in hopefully Dumba coming up in the 14-15 season and we seriously have a more legit shot at contention for a solid 4-5 years.

Interesting thought on Vanek, uh -- well where do we put him? I guess we could roll three scoring lines but if all goes to plan, we got Nino, Coyle and Zucker on wings. Add in Parise and Poms, you got 5 wingers for two lines. If Granlund gets kicked out on wing, you now got 6 wingers for the top 6. Ultimately, would it be better to bring in Vanek or let the kids continue to develop? Also is it wise to have all your money tied up on guys that'll be in their late 30s?

No way Vanek gets a huge contract anyway, probably be offered closer to what pominville makes now... also, 95% of the people in this forum/minnesota would be happy to get rid of another Wisconsin player for a Minnesota player for cheaper....

I don't think all of Coyle, Zucker, Granlund and Nino will stay on this team if we sign Vanek and decide not to roll three scoring lines. Whether this would be smart or not is up for debate.

We'd have Koivu, Parise, Pommer and Vanek in the top 6, assuming Heatley walks. That leaves two spots, one for a winger and one for a center.

All of our good players would be 30+ except Brodin. We'd be like Detroit without the Cups.

That right there is why I don't think we'll go after Vanek that hard.

That's just not smart. All but the best players in the league start to regress as they hit their early-mid 30's. Why would we want to make our window so small?
