I've been waiting for weeks to see if Gilbert would get bought out.

Sign him for $2.5M and pair him up with Gardiner.

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Gilbert
Rielly - Franson
Fraser

Get rid of Liles.

If Chuck's report that Weiss could possibly ask for as low as 5x5 from Toronto I would do that in a second. I think Grabo is tradable if we retain at least 1.5mm million of the cap hit as he would only cost 4mm to the acquiring team.

Also apparently Jon Blum is a UFA since he was non-tendered. I'd see if we can sign him to a reasonable amount. He's still young and has top 4 pairing potential from the right side.

I'd prefer keeping Liles and sending Rielly back to junior. Liles is still a perfectly capable top 4 defenseman. Randy Carlyle just inexplicably hates him.

The majority of the players in this list were drafted in 2007. One of the worst draft years ever?

Cap space.

You don't pay your #6/7 defenceman $3.875M.

There's a limit on how many trades you can retain salary in, correct? How many more are we allowed?

Nonis failed at the Draft

Now lets see if he can make up for his incompetence and trade Grabovski and Liles and actually get some thing for them. Does he have the stones to get rid of Burke's bad contracts, knowing it might show up his Mentor.

I don't know who Chuck is but I find it hard to believe any team would be willing to pony up 25 million for a guy coming off a 4 point season. I was thinking he would be signed to a 1 or 2 year contract by teams who want to see if he can still perform

When Liles is on his game he's one of our best D-men.

I don't understand why we would ever buy him out, or why people bother discussing it... he's an easily movable asset.

You do when you're not using it for anything else and you've got a free buyout at the end of the season effectively rendering it a one year deal at your discretion.

If you want to upgrade up front with two good free agents, you have to move Liles.

IE., adding Clarkson + Weiss.

Bernier, Bolland, Clarkson, Weiss, Gilbert would be a hell of an offseason

Don't want Gilbert.

Clarkson and Weiss would be nice. I want Macarthur re-signed as well.

JVR - Weiss - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
MacArthur - Bolland - Kulemin
Orr - McClement - D'Amigo

If we get Weiss, Grabovski is gone.

I'm not sure Clarkson is an upgrade over any of our top 6 wingers, especially when he's reportedly looking for 6M+. Weiss we should be able to afford, depending on how good Nonis is with RFAs.

That's an obvious bogus report. It's not even close to market value

This is my line up too. Strange how we heard a bunch about Bozak but nothing about Mac. I wanted to let him go when we had Frattin and Komarov but now we lost a lot of depth and can use him.
