Forgot to add.... (would edit but you know....)

Slava is signed long turn relatively cheap...Amart is a soon to be UFA...why add unnecessary uncertainty?

Hey look, I fixed CapGeek.

Will mess around with what I think will happen, what Brad Doty would do, and a Captain Insano special after I have some tea and play some Diablo.

As promised, better late than never I suppose. Keep in mind I suck at this. All criticism will be dismissed on the grounds that I'm terrible. Dollar amounts are obviously speculative.

You'll notice ahead of time that I leave Vey out of all three versions. I just think he's a tweener Kyle Wellwood style--not good enough for top 6, not gritty enough for bottom 6.

What I think will happen:

Outgoing: Fraser, Greene, J. Schultz UFA. Clifford traded.
Mitchell, King re-sign. Andreoff brought up.
Cap space is obviously ridiculously tight in this version but this is my speculation based on DL's loyalty to giving the same core a chance to continue past playoff success (though this is assuming we pass Round 1 with all players playing to their abilities).

Captain Insano Trade Overreaction Version
Ok. Since their salaries are overdone, we are going to get rid of our overrated whipping boys.

Brownie, it's been real. You get to go home to upstate New York for Ehrhoff. I'm sure there's some picks salary in there somewhere.

Richards, you get to get back closer to nature, so you're off to Winnipeg with Jones and some other prospect for Evander Kane. There's probably some picks in there somewhere.

Voynov, your salary cap is misleading because you're worth another million in sticks. You're off to Calgary with Williams for Giordano just because.

You're welcome, AEG. I just saved you a bunch of money!

I'm off to get dinner and hockey. Will respond to all sarcasm and fun-o-grams when I return late tonight!

Stars fan here. I was curious as to how you would rank the defenseman you have right now. So I guess rank the following players and make any additional notes you feel might be necessary. Thanks.

Drew Doughty
Slava Voynov
Willie Mitchell
Robyn Regehr
Matt Greene
Alec Martinez
Jake Muzzin
Andrew Campbell
Brayden McNabb

EDIT: Also, I would like to know what the specific strengths and weaknesses of Mitchell, Regehr, Greene, Martinez, and Muzzin are if you don't mind.

Doughty
Martinez
Voynov (either way)
Muzzin
McNabb
Mitchell
Regehr
Gravel
Greene
Forbort

Whoa high on McNabb! I like it.

Doughty
Voynov (slumping but when on top of his game he's here)
Martinez (has the tools to be better than all but Doughty imo)
Muzzin (I know, I know! But I think he's putting it all together)
Mitchell (If he can train again and stay healthy through the offseason he's one of the best shutdown D still in the game and really an ideal partner for Doughty if he can hold up, which is the big questionmark)
Regehr (big and solid and has been much better this season yet his black hole offensively/moving the puck does slow us down)
McNabb (all the tools except speed. Does he have the toolbox to compensate?)
Greene (Big, leader, character. All heart. Could play with every bone in his body broken. But will he play well? Big bounceback year next year for Greene.)
Gravel (Has to prove he can succeed in the pro game but watching him play college was like watching Doug Harvey play in the AHL)
Forbort (Same as Gravel but has a year on him. I would say he probably projects more to a defensive defenseman with size and a good stick and ability to move the puck. These are the guys that become excellent defensive defensemen imo rather than the guys drafted specifically for that purpose)
Campbell (solid if unspectacular. Left handed Greene imo)

Now. Obviously future may look much different.

Would anyone be interested in Thornton for the right price? Dudes hell of a play maker and he's a big body.

I believe WM will take a pay cut and stay. This organization stood behind him twice and he's made it very public how much he loves playing for the Kings.

I would like to think that as well. However this is likely the last large scale contract he will ever sign. I would not blame him if he decides to try and cash in elsewhere.

The Kings core at D is Doughty and Voynov. Martinez and Muzzin are the next tier. McNabb will take over for Greene or Mitchell. Regehr has 1 more year.

The battle next year is for the #7 spot.

Doughty-Muzzin
Voynov-Regehr
Martinez-McNabb

#7.....????

I'm gonna take a guess they'll try to bring Mitchell back for another year and have McNabb as #7. With Mitchell's injury concerns McNabb will get enough playing time either way heck they can even rest Mitchell or Regehr. The Kings will sit pretty with that depth should someone get injured in playoffs. Greene will be let go.

I don't see the Kings letting McNabb be a healthy scratch and I don't see Mitchell being a healthy scratch.

I think someone is out...either Mitchell by UFA or Martinez by trade.

I think this is likely unless Dean goes hard at someone who would be an upgrade over Martinez, RR, or Muzzin

I like Martinez but if would need to be included in a package to land a bigger piece I would pull the trigger

Obviously I'd be onboard for a deal that could land a better piece no matter which player is going the other way as long as it makes us better. I just think Martinez brings so much potential to the team. Especially in a steady role.
