Crazy to think that as of today we only have 3 prospects set to play in the CHL next season.

Seriously. We generally have more players in the CHL/juniors than in the NCAA or Europe. Just an interesting time in our organization's development where so many guys have turned pro in the same span.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I haven't watched many games. Watch for Buchnevich to get a good look with Severstal. They have a very solid team, if they keep up last year's performance, but I'd say he sticks. I'm guessing in the 10-15 goals, 25-30 points range next year for him, if he makes the team. Big ice fits him well, and he should be able to light it up against the weaker KHL teams. Skating impressed me as well, from the 3 or 4 games I watched. Looked a little out of place in that 1 game I caught in the Playoffs. All in all, very impressive young kid for his age.

I'll make sure to keep an eye on him next season, will try to keep you guys updated. (I'm kinda pissed we don't have any Czech or Slovak prospects (except for Hrivik, obviously), because I could be of much more use for you guys then ;)).

Cam Talbot has technically exhausted his prospect eligibility, but Beacon (for the prospect polls) and I talked and figured he fits into the "other circumstances" exemption, and as such, I'll continue to list him here.

Here's what I wrote:

Beacon said:
You are right, except one clause: "NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant."

The reason I think Talbot is an exception is that almost all the players without NHL experience by the time they are his age are going to be career minor leaguers with no hope of making the NHL, while Talbot clearly is thought to still have the potential to make it based on the Rangers giving him a one-way contract the year Biron's ends. I think that's enough to separate him from others because it shows professionals are viewing him as a probable future NHLer.

Hopefully some of these guys can take big steps forward this year. Hate to see us end up with a whole lot of fledgling pro-prospects with quite a few 3-4 year NCAA and international prospects in the pipe. Pretty big gap in development there.

Yeah, of all the guys we drafted going into the NCAA/there now, I don't see a lot who would be ready after two years.

I figure it'd be better to ask this in this thread rather than in one of the poll threads..

Which of our prospects has the highest upside to be a dynamic player in the NHL? I'm not talking about who's closer or who the safer players are and what not.. if, hypothetically, everything goes well for each of our prospects and they all reach their full potential/ceiling, who winds up as the most effective?

I'm not as familiar with the guys we just drafted, and aside from this past year I haven't followed our guys too closely in college/juniors other than reading about how they did online. I forgot to mention, aside from Kreider.. because I know that'll be everyone's first answer

I would say McIlrath, Fast or Nieves

i don't think any of the Rangers current prospects can be dynamic players in esscence that description is top tier 1rst line forwards, top pair dmen, #1 star goalies. But there is definitely a lot to like in terms of depth and the good thing is that there are many guys who can be in consideration for top prospect of the organization. For me, my opinion constantly changes between Fast, Lindberg and Miller and I believe either one can be the organization's top prospect.

I think Nieves has a shot to be a real steal, and impact player. He's got all the tools you dream of in a top forward and the rink sense to materialize into something special. I think he's really underrated.

Agree, Nieves looking really good. Hopefully he goes to Traverse City along with the othrr NCAA guys.

In terms of readiness to become a top 6 forward or make a real impact;
1. Fast
2. Nieves
3. Buchnevich

Those guys have the highest upside in the Rangers system. Out of the three, Boo is the safest to have a good NHL career, but if all three become solid players, HUGE plus.

Michael St Croix. His upside is top 6 or potentially top line material if everything breaks right for him, which is the premise here. He had a great career as Oil King.

Boo also needs to be in the discussion. he had a phenomenal year at Michigan.

I am not going to talk about this year's picks, cause i have no clue except for Duclair who I have seen highlights from camp. He looked good.

I'm not the biggest St. Croix fan, but in terms of skill, aside from Buchnevich, he is definitely on top of the prospect pool. The way he stickhandles reminds me of Patrick Kane. He's supremely talented, and id argue one of the more talented prospects in the entire league.

Duclair reminds me of Hagelin. If he has a similar development path and becomes a Hagelin clone, that would be pretty cool. Never a bad thing having two "dogs who can chase the bone" puck retrieval dudes.

Minor housekeeping: PEI Rocket is now Charlottetown Islanders. So look for that when you're looking for Graves.

I didn't remember reading it, but Calle Andersson officially transferred to Malmö. That's kind of disappointing as they're in the HockeyAllsvenskan. Had he stayed with Färjestad, he'd be in the Swedish Hockey League (formerly Elitserien). So he's basically in the Swedish AHL rather than the Swedish NHL.

Uhh. Can I change my prospect vote? :help:
Is this a one way ticket or Swedish system also allows for some sort of call up option?
